It really doesn't matter what Samsung does now. Whatever is going on with the note can go wrong with any other phone they bring out. So who is gonna take a chance on getting a bad phone again?

Really? Sure this tarnishes the Samsung name but I'd say more damage is being done by their shitty handling of the situation, in particular the fact that they recalled everything, said they were safe, and had more fires. Yeah it sucks that they made a phone that literally catches on fire but I wouldn't say that inherently makes all future phones by them more likely to catch on fire than other brands. If anything I'd say it's less likely as they'll certainly be more thorough in the future for testing that kind of thing.

Well, when I went to the sprint store to check it out and put my phone next to it, my phone was bigger, as in screen size not phone size.

You seriously can't be in this much denial John. Both phones have a 5.7" display. The Note 7 has a slight curved edge to it, so it may appear to be smaller, but in reality the size is exactly the same.

So am I. I was gonna get the note 7 but when I realized my Note 3 is actually bigger I decided not to and plus the fact I didn't like the edge screen. I like the bigger screens. Since having the note, handling the regular the S series phones are just too damn small. My gf has the S5. My only hope now is the LG V20.


Doubt it. More along the lines of phones here. I do believe they released the note 7 too quick without enough research and testing.

I will be looking at the LG V20, but since samsung is still providing security patches for the note 4 (although I dont know how long that will continue to be the case), I may wait till the note 8 is released or galaxy s8 pro or whatever it is called. I think they will have enough time to sort the battery problem out, I heard they may even turn to LG to supply their batteries for their 2017 phones.

While true, tons of people will buy their products again. The S8 is going to come out, people will not buy it because of the Note 7, but if all goes well people will forget it the next time they release a phone. Look how many people still buy cars from Toyota even though they had the stuck accelerator problem causing car crashes.


The Note 3 has the same size screen as the Note 7 at 5.7". It has a smaller body which everyone loves.

It wont stop me buying another samsung product, as much as I hate how they removed the removable battery and as much as I hate how they went with edge only screens for the note 7, they still make the best phone with a stylus.
But I would like them to be open and transparent about what exactly went wrong with the note 7 and what they have done to ensure it is not a problem with their 2017 flagship devices.

I feel same way, although I didn't mind the 'edge' screen.

They just need to put out something new, fresh, and above all somehow get people to trust in them again...that's the tough part!

I see the edge screen as a gimmick, I have yet to see the benefit and in my opinion it just adds an unnecessary distortion to the viewing experience, they should have released a flat and edge screen variant and let the customer decide. A person in the Samsung store said they didn't release a flat screen note 7 because the galaxy s7edge was selling better than the standard galaxy s7. But to me that is not a conclusion you can make, that is because people want bigger phones. If a galaxy s7 edge sold better than a galaxy s7 flat screen 5.5" phone then I think you could safely assume that consumers prefer the edge screen, but you can't compare a 5.2" screen to a 5.5" screen.
Having said all that, I could possibly live with a curved edge screen, no matter what phone you chose, there seems to be some element of compromise, there is no such thing as the perfect phone. If only phones were modular.

There is a article/rumor out that Samsung is discontinuing the note line and staying with a single flagship series. If they do that, they will lose me as a customer as I like the bigger screens. The note line was perfect. In fact, I could probably handle a full 6" screen. I use the stylus a decent amount as well. I do not like the edge screen, it makes the phone smaller and easier to crack/break screen if you drop it.

All they gotta do is make a new device, change it slightly with lower price, maybe include a gear VR or some other half-assed extra, and call it something like the Samsung Scribe Pro and market the shit out of it to their key demographic

I agree with ya on that one Johnb. I have the S7 Edge and very thin. Has a tendency to squeeze and pop right
out of my hand. It will be my last one. That edge does nothing and serves no purpose at all.

I don't see them abandoning the phone line, just rebranding it, especially since there is already a Note 8 tablet that they released a while ago. My guess is a 5.1" S8 in the spring and in the fall a 5.7" S8 Pro in fall.

I'd say the majority prefer the premium build and edge screen over plastic removable backs and flat screens. Samsung made an edge and flat version of the S6, in the same size, and from what I remember the edge version vastly outsold the flat version.

I feel like you might underestimate the absolutely insane amount of market research a company like Samsung does for their products. The tech oriented consumers are going to be way more vocal about features they do or don't want versus the general masses. I demand a removable battery in my phone, but most consumers either don't care or don't even think to make the distinction.

Shiny and sleek devices sell. The edge screens seem somewhat gimmicky but they sure do look good and compete with Apple for consumers after that kind of device. I think Samsung overall makes excellent products but for my tinkering and interest in technology they're not my kind of product.

I agree in that features that might be important to me, may not be important to a lot of people. I may be underestimating, but you may also be overestimating the amount of research they do, especially considering they sold a phone not once, but twice that caught on fire.
Then there is also a question of market research versus companies doing what they want in order to maximise their profits and force people to upgrade and spend more money. Do you seriously thing a company like Apple who would possibly do more market research than Samsung, do you think they researched what consumers wanted and then decided to remove the headphone jack, or perhaps a way to force you into buying their own hardware because of their proprietary lightning connector.
LG have a metal back, besides the plastic back doesn't bother me in the slightest, as I have always used a case on any phone I have bought. I would say from what I have observed that the majority of people also use a case.
