SATA DVD drive not being recognized

I bought a PC from a friend that didn't include an optical drive (he took his out to put in another PC of his). I figured I'd just easily put one of mine in, but for some reason, PC isn't recognizing it at all. I even tried using a different SATA port, but no luck. Is there something I'm missing here?

It's a Dell PC with the stock Dell motherboard, btw.

You did plug in the power connector?:P. Is your harddrive a IDE, if so you probably never had sata drivers installed.Does the drive show up in the bios? Either get the Sata drivers or see if there is a setting in the bios to set the sata ports to Native mode. Or like johnb35 said, they might not be enabled.

I will look in the BIOS to see if it's enabled, but I'm 99% sure it is. The guy before me used a SATA DVD drive, so unless he disabled it himself, everything should be fine.
