Should I build this?

CPU Intel Core i5-4690K
FAN CM Hyper 212 EVO
MOBO Gigabyte GA-Z97M-DS3H
GPU Gigabyte GTX 980
RAM Crucial Ballistix 8GB
SSD Crucial BX100 120GB
HDD Seagate 1 TB
CASE Corsair Carbide 200R
PSU Corsair CX600
ODD Samsung 24x SATA

Should i swap the i5 for an i7 4790K?

If just gaming, I5 will be fine. Any reason why you don't want to go Samsung 850 EVO SSD with a better write speed?

Quick answer, no.

Longer answer, Skylake processors are here now. This would be an updated list.

Would my PC be compatible if I swapped my current processor for a skylake processor

Skylake requires a new motherboard and DDR4 memory. I would highly recommend you look at it though, as you wouldn't be buying a processor and platform that is already outdated.

In regards to my post,

1)Is my system adequate would you recommend upgrading to the i7 4790K

2)Also if i where to buy a skylake processor what components would i have to change in order for it to be compatible.

3) simple terms is much appreciated:)

I would recommend Skylake. With the 4790K you are buying at the very end of that lifecycle, so you won't be able to upgrade your processor seeing as how nothing new will be made for it. With Skylake, you can upgrade to a new CPU a few years down the road.

Ok if i get skylake are all my other components compatible with it

Sir
You dont seem to understand.

Your parts are outdated, and there are newer CPUs out, which require new motherboards and newer RAM.
Sir i don't think you understand...

I asked for suggested RAM and Motherboard that would work if i got a i7 6700K , as the other parts will work fine, i just want some suggested parts names for ram and a motherboard
