Side pannel off or on?

Ive honestly always wondered what gives you better temps. The side pannel off or on. On becasue of the vacume effect or off because of better airflow? Ive never been able to come up with conclusive results myself therefore I am asking.

Side panel on is better for airflow.

Only if you have enough, and properly placed fans. It depends on the
case and number of fans.

Run your system with for a day with, and without the cover for a day and
monitor your temps during both.

Definitely depends on the airflow, a case with proper airflow will have better temps with the panel on. I actually experienced this the other day when I took the case off of my xbox 360 and it promptly overheated soon after I turned it on.

Also, if you feel that the airflow in your case isn't optimal, a good test to determine what temps you would get if you had perfect airflow is to set a floor fan on high and blow it into the side of the case with the door off, guaranteed to get you better temps. :P

i've done that on quite a few occasions lol. brings my temperatures down really nicely

With several fans, having the case closed provides better temps.
With passive cooling, having the case open provides better temps.

Having the side panel off mine give me better temps,Thats not on the case i have in siggy though i have not got that yet.

im using a cheap Icute case atm.

keep it on

i recommend keeping it on,, air flow out the back is much better then just coming out into the room,, without the panel,, your fans are just spinning for no reason as their is no guided direction for air flow with the panel.,,

well im not sure but im sure if you reconfigured the fans to aimed for the missing side panel you would probably see much better temps.... will try tomorrow

Leave it on. Like mentioned, optimal airflow is better than just have a load of air getting to it and circulating around.

Basically its just going to come down to your specific case setup. If your getting adequate air flow with the case fans, you'll see lower temps there. But, say, you only had one low-level intake fan and one low-level exhaust fan, your going to get better temps with the side off. As said before, pull the side off and monitor your temps for a few days, put it back on and monitor for a few days, and you'll get your answer there.

been doing some testing and found With a generic case i got better temps with my current air flow setup with the side panel on.

But after slightly moving my fans to compensate for the missing side panel i got a few degrees cooler.

and again when i aimed my 30cm fan at the case it cooled down 10 degrees but in just about 4 hours use i found the dust building up was way to much so im keeping the side panel on

Lol, now that sad if your room is that dusty and collects that much dust on a computer in 4 hrs... invest in an air cleaner/filter:P
