SSD really slow on startup

so i have never had any issues with my computer ever always been really fast and reliable. I went on vacation for a few days came back powered it on and it took a good 3 minutes for it to boot up and let me use it. Im used to like 30-40 seconds from the time i hit the power button. Any ideas? Ive run malwarebytes and no hits on anything everything is up to date. startup is clear of everything. Maybe just a random thing? what are your thoughts?

My computers tend to do that also. They run a bit slower than usual at boot and loading everything if they have been off for several days or longer. That slowness lasts for a few minutes and then they run normally. If I was an electronics engineer I would probably know why this happens, but I'm not.

well aren't you a little groggy if someone randomly wakes you up in the middle of a good nap, where if you've only been asleep for like 30 mins or an hour your refreshed and all.

It's probably because you have programs in the background that needs to search for updates when you first boot up.

I do the updates. I have all the "stuff" set not to update unless I choose to do so. I HATE having programs and the OS auto-update because I want to know what is being updated, and to what version or what is being added. I also dont want programs taking time doing updates or starting up when I might only have my computer on for a short period of time.

when you hit the expand option in the task tray to see the other stuff it'll show when the updater is on, and it should say windows is updating when it is with one of the little chat box style things that pop up in the corner, and it has an option i'v clicked several times b4 that tell you how many and what and all.

General SSD advice:

Disable superfetch
Create a 512mb page file on SSD and disable all others
Disable hibernation file (the command escapes me)
Make sure it is properly aligned before installed an OS (win7 will do this automatically) otherwise you only get half the advertised speeds each way
Use it only for os/office/browsers unless it's a larger drive

All good stuff imo.
Sometimes there can be a significant slow down if in IDE mode.
Altho superfetch enabled helps with boot times, it's normally disabled for the already speedy ssd.

Did anyone use the computer while you were on vacation?

Computer was off the whole time i was gone, i have all auto update disabled on startup. it only boots OS thats it, it was sketcky for quite awhile after it finally turned on too then it figured it out and it ran just fine. the only thing i have on my ssd is my OS MS office and my internet browser everything else is run off of my other drive. I keep it clean with plenty of space to keep my speed up. It seems to be running fine now but it definitely took awhile for it to kick in

great article, but it doesnt make sense that it would be performing so well for the past 6 months and all a sudden it is really slow on everything. Boot up now takes a good couple minutes. My computer is lagging a lot on a lot of things mainly bootup

dont know how much this will help but I will definitely give it a try soon as i get home tonight thanks

still kind of sketchy on bootup and normal tasks, it never used to be like this. boot time is a little faster but still not anywhere near it used to be.

Was 7 installed with the bios in ACHI?
Running in ACHI mode will usually make a noticable improvement in performance.
But when the os is installed with the bios in IDE, Windows diables the ACHI driver and it can be hard to get it to work.
MS has a fix here
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976
but I know it doesn't always work in this situation.

Also, there may be a little risk in Windows not recognizing data on a patition after the switch. So when you change the bios sATA port setting to ACHI for the SSD, see if you can change that port only.
Is the ssd connected to the first mb Sata port, usually labeled 0 or 1? If not maybe make it so, before the fix attempt.

I installed in IDE Mode without thinking but i was able to run in ahci mode after the fix, it seems to have some of its speed back. I am working on some fixes still, it just doesnt seem right to me still for some reason

also my ssd is set in sata_3 in the bios. It is plugged into the sata port on the mb labeled 1 though. Does this make any difference if its 3 in the bios? should it be 1?
