Summer Upgrade - Thoughts?

The brand on mobo is great but personally, I think you should stick with 1 GPU. Going SLi is going to be more expensive, draw more power, You're going to have to get a new PSU... and if you want to change your card you can easily change the 8800GTS and not have to worry about selling, or whatever to the other card. Just my thoughts.

For the mobo, I can easily recommend the Gigabyte P35-DS3L. Very nice overclocking features. But if you really want the best of the best, get this:

^ Excellent reviews and overclocking capabilities.

Q6600 is a nice choice. :)

So overall, my opinion is that SLi is kinda like a 2-way situation. You do get more juice but you pay more than you should get.

I don't see the point of getting 2 more G92's if you already have one? Haha :D

HX520 probably won't suffice though...

I've seen people running SLI 640 GTS' on my PSU and they consume more, so I think my PSU would be up to it...

I really think that SLI would be a good choice, but from what you guys have said... Maybe not. Oh, and Oscar, I meant just getting another 1, so I'd have 2 :P

SLI is an elaborate waste for the most part since you often don't realize any potential performance gain. Plus you need two identical cards for that.

You can fuss over individual cards to see which one will work the best on your current setup and save more that way to have that for a better cpu like Nevakonaza pointed out. For the AMD build here simply moving up from the 2.2ghz to 3ghz cpu range along with using a newer mid range card and faster memory shot right past the last build.

have GTS cards suddenly gotten better? They were untouched before, it was 8800GT or GTX and the GTS was just a waste, right?

But now i see loads of people buying them, have they made a new one or something?

:P So what do you think?

Well, If it were me I'd spend the money on something like a camera, a MacBook, or maybe a new bike (that actually has shocks :D ) because I'd consider that a pretty kickbutt system. Now if you really want to upgrade, upgrade, but that's up to you...

If you are running mostly stock then going with a faster cpu will see a boost there right away. For board and a new card if you intend to upgrade those you would be looking at the 9800s and a PCI-E 2.0 board for half of a new build there.

If you are not having any problems and everything works well with the current card stepping up the cpu would be a last minute item without going too far. You could put that extra money saved towards the next build that will come in time.

Yeah, they made a new GTS, with 512MB of RAM, it's a great card, just above the GT in performance. But I have mine OC'ed so it's better than a 9800GTX.

You have a point, May be a bit excessive having SLI...

I'm running my E6300 @ 2.8Ghz. Looks like a new CPU then :D

Look Danny, instead of getting a second 8800GTS, save the money for it and use it to get a Q6700 instead. ;)

I mean, don't you cap your FPS in COD4 already? :D And isn't COD4 the only game in the world that rocks? :P
