Now this svchost.exe is hanging between 400 and 700 MB

EDIT: I disabled Windows Update and it's now around 100MB

I see windows update service is using that svchost. That could be the issue if this is a fresh install, it may take a while for it to level out.

Yea, I disabled it, and now it's at 100MB.
I'll try disabling the services 1 by 1 again and see what it does.

I fixed the game by not forcing it to v-sync and triple buffer.
Guess it doesn't work with a java application.

You can also try setting these to not run at startup and see if that helps.

Rerun hijackthis and place checks next to the following entries. Remember, you must run it as admin or it won't work.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [APSDaemon] "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\APSDaemon.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Reader Speed Launcher] "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe ARM] "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\ARM\1.0\AdobeARM.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SwitchBoard] "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\SwitchBoard\SwitchBoard.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AdobeCS6ServiceManager] "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\CS6ServiceManager\CS6ServiceManager.ex e" -launchedbylogin
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Java\Java Update\jusched.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Google Update] "C:\Users\Michael\AppData\Local\Google\Update\Goog leUpdate.exe" /c
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [DAEMON Tools Lite] "C:\Program Files (x86)\DAEMON Tools Lite\DTLite.exe" -autorun

Then click on fix checked at the bottom.

I tried disabling the services 1 by 1 and it did not work.
Then I did that what you said, which didn't work right away.
So, I rebooted the computer and now it's fine.

I'm not sure if it was a residu of windows update or the prevention of those applications starting up at boot.

The highest any svchost.exe is getting now is 15MB

I also removed Kaspersky.

Thank you very very much for helping me out!

Not a good idea to remove your only antivirus program. I would suggest installing the free programs of either Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials.

I still have Eset Nod32 Anti-virus installed. Do you know any stand-alone firewall programs? Or does Avast have that?

Eset wasn't in your programs list though? How can it be installed? Are you behind a router? If so, you really don't need a firewall unless you are working with sensitive data/websites. Zonealarm firewall is free but can be a pain setting it up properly. Comodo is a possibility as well.

It's in my system tray and it's up-to-date. Ccleaner also shows it in the installed programs list.
I'll take a look at those, thank you.
