System Idle Process Troubleshoot

Try removing the data cable from the cd rom drive and see if the cpu usage is still the same.

Didn't know that it was a laptop. The only thing you can do with it now is just remove it. On the bottom of the laptop should be 1 screw that releases it from the slot. Undo the screw and then just pull the drive out.

Thats a very good sign that the cd drive was causing the issue. Continue to use machine and keep an eye on cpu usage. If it stays low then the drive was the issue.

Yes, that means your computer is 98.87% idle which is what you want. As other processes use up more cpu usage the system idle process goes down.
