Temps under load

Hey, I am running CPU Burn-In, and I was just wondering if the temps I get when running that are considered "under load"? Because it runs the CPU at 50%, but while its running it is staying at 56C. Idle my computer is running at 40C. But are the temps with CPU Burn-In running considered load? Also, are those temps safe, 56C load? Thanks for the help.

i assume you are talking about the CPU is your Sig (P4 3.0 GHz), in which case it depends on what the room temp was at the time. But 56 is quite safe but 50% isnt under load techincaly...
 
I'm just curiuos myself as to what temps are considered "safe". I have an AMD Athlon 64 3200 OC'd from 2.0ghz to roughtly 2.14ghz. Idle runs at like 34 C, and under load around 48 C. Just wondering at what temps should I get a better cooling system for the processor?
 
Those temps are fine. Right now my idle is 30°C and load is only 42°C(but my room is like 62°F right now). As long as you keep it under 60°C you should be fine.
 
Hey helmie. I was thinking about getting the big typhoon again, because I know it will work this time. But then I realized, once you put it on there, it's done. You cant switch it to another mobo if you need to (cuz of the foam). So I ordered this: Arctic Cooling. I know it wont cool as well, but if I need to I can switch mobo's, and it's much easier to take off. Sometime down the road I will most definitely try the big typhoon again.

plus That CPU cooling can push hot air toward the rear, to exhaust, because its standing, don't you agree?
 
those temps aren't bad. As far as safe temperatures, my 820 is around 75C when I have two Pi calculations going on. search for super pi mod and download the program,and tell us the CPU usage and the temps
 
56 at 50% is definatly worth keeping an eye on as the 3200+ starts to melt at around 68 I think!
 
sometimes I wonder if mine runs too hot...I have 5 fans running from 2000-4500RPM and a zalman silent cpu cooler...and shin etsu grease (i think it's all in my sig). I get 37C or so idle and like 42 or 44C under load. never got higher than that. my room is pretty warm though.

I've been using speedfan to get my temps, but I cant figure out which temps mean what...it just says 'temp1, temp2, temp3, temp, HD0 and HD1'.

what should HDD's run at? one of mine runs at 30C idle but the other one is always in the 50s...i think it might be my raptor, but i cant tell. i rarely use that drive, so i doubt it would run that hot...
 
hdd's are sposta run about 40c i think... and those cpu temps are just fine. have you compared yours with other people temps? :P
 
Hey. The other day I ran two instances of CPU burn-in at the same time, creating 100% CPU load the whole time. My max. temp. was 60C. Which is great, considering I used to get up to 70C idle with my other CPU. But I should get my other hsf today, and I will let you know the temps. Thanks for the help.
 
Yeah, the Typhoon is a Bugger to change to a new mobo. That AC HSF wasnt too far behind the Typhoon, and its just as quiet.

Also, another CPU test you can run is Prime95. Same thing as SuperPi tho.
 
I'm running a P4 3.0ghz Prescott too.

I have a ThermalTake heat sink and fan. It's called the Silent Tower. It's a big sucker, but the fan only runs at 2500RPM.

My CPU idles at 48C and hits 65C after playing CounterStrike for about an hour.

I've for a 120mm case fab in the back, and an 80mm case fan on the side door.

I wish I knew how to crank my ThermalTake fan speed up to about 4000RPM. I don't like seeing that 65C on the CPU

I'm thinking about drilling a blow hole in the top of the case and slap another 80mm fan in there.

On the case fans:
Do you guys set them to always blow OUT? Or do you have an INTAKE fan in the front somewhere to pull in fresh air from outside the case?

I've got my fans set to blow OUT.

48°C idle is really high for an idle temp, I have the same processor and I'm at 33°C and I rarely ever go above 50°C when playing any game.
 
yea my temps dont ever hit 60C and i o/ced like 640mhz lol...
i can't read temps from inside windows for some reason, ntune won't let me for some reason... but in the bios i set it to automatically shut off if temps hit 60C

Do you even know what you are talking about?

The melting point of a processor isn't EVEN CLOSE to 68C! Generally, processors are designed to be able to withstand up to 75-80C.
 
quick question...when you use speedfan to check temps, are you measuring it by temp1 (what is displayed in the taskbar when the program is minimized.) ? I rechecked my temps and then run more like 26C idle (after sitting for a couple hours) and around 50C under load.
