True n00b needs help with first build attempt...

Another question. I have a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit reinstallation disk that I got when I bought my Dell Studio XPS. Could I use that for the new computer of can it only be used for the Dell that it came with?

Yeah, that's what I meant. The MB/CPU it has to be the same manufact'r AND the socket type on the MB/cpu have to match up.
So you did good. Your mb/cpu are both socket 1156.
I like that hdd, I wish I had one.
So gpu and optical drive next? is that all?
Don't forget to look for combos on your parts. More than likely there was an optical or a card reader/writer for discont with the cpu or hdd,,,or gpu.
The mb has an on-board sound card--8 channel.
Let's investigate that power supply to make sure it has the correct amps for the card that's chosen.
 
I'm thinking you cant use that disc if it a repair disc or reinstall disc.
Does it have the hologram on the label.
Any name brand cd/dvd drive will be good, you can get one for $17-25.
On the ICE--a 5670 gets it power from the mb slot,,the next one up//5770//and above
are plugged into the psu.
Your safe with the 5670, but if you can do a 5770 it will perform a little better.

Yep, I ordered everything I listed, Now I'm looking at this video card on Craigslist, I know it's a little older but seems to be a good deal... whatcha think?

Ok, I don't want the guy to sell the XFX 9800GTX video card so I'm just gonna pick it up. If it's the wrong one I guess I could just sell it again or trade it for a different one.

The only thing is you won't be able to use it w/ a second video card down the road, but it may not matter.

here's what i recommend. this combo is a smokin hot deal. The xfx power supply is way better than ocz's and it's more power that you'll need for upgrades later which means you wont have to buy another later. and the video card will play games(the ones you work up to) at max settings and you won't have to upgrade for a long time. It's new tech and is deff the way to go, even if you cant return the ocz you have and have to sell it. High quality at a great price.

Good thing I checked this before I went out, so no GTX? And the the other one is out of stock? Ha ha, story of my life! :D

Do you have another suggestion? I really doubt I'll ever have two video cards at a time so no worries there.

Also, what do I want, a CD/DVD player, CD/DVD burner, Blue Ray or all of them? Are they all basically the same? All different animals? :confused:
 
the all in ones --> //multi drive//will burn and play cd's and dvd's. If you want to play BR get a BR player. for dc/dvd Asus, Samsung, LG,,(name brand and should be 25 or under).

Stick w/ newer technology with the video card...here's 3. the 5770 will be good for games now, and will do more grphically demanding games(but not on higher qualtiy settings) but you can add a second 5770 later when the time comes. With this new system I'm guessing that graphics demand will increase rather quickly, so personally, I'd just gget the 5830 wich would meet those demands without having to do anything.

Here's some optical drives that burn and play cd and dvd's. One has lightscribe that burns labels and graphics onto your discs if you want that. I didn't pick OEM because it may not come with any software.

Ok. My MB says it supports 2.0x16 PCI so the 5770 is a good fit, but the 5830 says it's 2.1x16 PCI format... same thing? different?
