Two graphics card questions

1) When I finished my computer, I booted it up with my AGP card, an MSI NX7600GS-TD256Z, but the display had a bunch of lines through it during even the boot up screen, and wouldn't show any higher than 4 bit color. For the record I have a 500W power supply and my video card had a connection from the power supply. Both the card and motherboard use the 8x AGP version.
Is this because my graphics card is broken? If you require any other information to help me, I'd be more than happy to look it up.

2) The backup graphics card I'm using, a PCI based GeForce MX 4000, seems to be running fine except for every now and then the monitor blacks out for half a second. The intervals seem to be random and I can't quite derive a pattern from these disturbances. Why are these momentary blackouts happening?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

about number 1 have u gone into display settings an had a look at how many bit it is if it is not on 32 bit change it to 32 bit

yes, i have tried it, and it didn't do anything.

Plus, like I said, it was even messed up during the boot up screen (in the BIOS). colored lines running vertically down the screen; almost like ink tracked onto the wheels on a newspaper press.

sounds to me like your 7600gt has ran too hot for (maybe) some time, or, well, at least it does definately sound like its damaged, since it even does that in the bios.
you could try reseating its heatsink (make sure the heatsink is clean btw) however, if its still under warranty, i'd suggest to bring it back to the shop where you bought it asap, because something is wrong with the card.

not a clue about the mx4000 tough

My computer is plugged into a power bar that has a few other things connected to it as well; could both problems maybe be related to insufficient power intake? I mean, the PSU itself is a good quality 500W, but if it doesn't get enough power to juice through the system... you get what i'm saying?
