Two questions regarding my new SSD:

1) I didn't follow the guide for SSDs stickied at the top of the section. Should I reinstall and start from there? (I simply installed everything as if it were a normal, non-SSD storage device). I've been using the computer for around a month or so now.

2) My reported amount of space used seems to be different from the space used that shows up when I select all of the objects within the drive and check their size as a group (Hidden files and folders are set to "show"):

Is there a reason for that?

Your Local Disk will show more space taken up then just your Program Files (x86) folder.

Thats the entire drive, Program Files (x86) shows up at 4GB.

There are protected operating system files that are hidden and will not show up unless you allow them.

What I meant by that is, that is the size of all selected objects in the screenshot, and not only the Program Files (x86) folder.

@john: Would these appear if I enabled viewing hidden files and objects.

There is nothing to worry about. The space will be installed windows updates and other OS related files.

All kind of others, system restore/Hide protected operating system files/Hide extensions for known file types.
