Unannounced Core i3 Chip Shows Up at Retail

Why the hell have Intel made the I3 a Dual core? :D

They will sell, of course they will but would you guys buy a Dual core again?

Makes no sense whatsoever!...

It's been on their roadmap--it has hyperthreading, and I assume it will overclock like crazy :).

Yeah obviously, they are still dual cores, with more cache and better architecture. Should perform at about E8xxx speed

this hyperthreading keeps coming up, how does this help you?

Remember the hyperthreading from the P4 era? Well, it's back. Supposedly it makes it a bit faster:

This is an interesting result:

It makes the chips better at doing multiple tasks, it effectively makes a single core act as 2 cores, 2 slower cores, but 2 cores, so on systems which can use multiple cores, which is just about every OS now, it makes it quicker, so with a dual core processor that has HT, you are looking at what is sort of a quad core.

And I can see who would buy it...me :P I can't afford an i5 or i7 what with only being able to work part time around my full time education and saving up for useful stuff. If they trump the AMD chips, I may have to rethink my planned future build, because budget is everything for me, as I am sure it is with many others who can't get the newest stuff that hits the shelves the moment it hits the shelves and has to think of future proofing their system in the cheepest way

Its virtual cores, not actual cores. It basically allows to threads to be executed at the same time.

But isn't a 4 physical core CPU w/o HyperThreading going to do better than a Dual-Core Hyperthread? Because if that's incorrect, then the i5 is pretty dumb, but I'm very sure that is correct.

I wonder how these i3's will perform against the Q8xxx quad cores... and the E8xxx dual cores...

perhaps intel should have made the i3 a tripple core?

Well the i3 will end up replacing the E series.

Intel should have made it simple like AMD.

Single core Sempron, but who cares.
Then the Athlon II X2/X3 and X4
Then the Phenom II X2/X3 and X4.
And one socket AM3, and most will even run on a AM2+ socket.

Intel with all these i3/i5/i7 and i9, talk about a mess.

Intel doesn't sell their defective chips. :D

But the idea of intel selling a 100% working Tripple core chip would be good :)

Im looking farward to the i9s :)...if AMD has not brought anything super good out by the time the i9s come out...looks like that will be my next upgrade.

i3 5xx dual core with HT, w/o turbo mode
i5 6xx same as above but with turbo mode
i5 7xx Quad core w/o HT
i7 8xx Quad core with HT
i7 9xx same as above but for LGA socket 1366

Also, only the dual cores have integrated GPU

If you look at model number it would be much simpler than looking at i3, i5 and i7
