i have a problem... its kinda complicated. i have an HP dv9000z with windows vista and XP dual booted. i was on a long trip, and i was bord, so i started fiddling with underclocking, to get better battery life. i was in XP at the time, and used Rightmark CPU Clock Utility to underclock it. i really had no idea what i was doing, but i figured i could hit the "back to defaults" button if i screwed anything up. well, i also fiddled with my dual booting software and long and short of it is: windows vista is underclocked to .8ghz per core and i dont know how to put it back. can anyone help my clock my computer back up to 2.0ghz per core, where it was before i screwed it up? if i need to provide any info, just ask.

You could use the program to clock it back to default... or you can clear the CMOS by taking out the laptop battery and CMOS battery.

dude, brilliant! fortunately, the cmos battery is really easy to get to on my laptop. umm what will happen though...besides the clock will be screwed and stuff?

Maybe a longer POST, to detect the hardware again, and yes the clock.... Make sure to unplug all removable hardware, remove the laptop main battery as well, leave both out for about an hour to 2 hours. I would also go into BIOS, after reset, setting the boot order to HDD, Floppy, CD/DVD, Ethernet...

I hope it works for ya.... If not, is there anyway you can get into the OS and uninstall that OC'ing utility and then reset CMOS?

i can get to both OSs, but it takes some screwing around. i looked for an uninstaller, but the only thing i could even find is its program files. i would like to delete them, but im scared to see what will happen...

oh, btw, i unpluged the CMOS battery, and its still at .8ghz .

See what you can do... Search for the program, look everywhere, delete everything to do with it... Are you taking out the laptop battery as well? Take both batteries out and I would leave them out overnight.

Unplug the cord then remove the CMOS battery. Otherwise, uninstall the software

i did the 1st and ima try the 2nd. i cant find an uninstaller, theres no entry in the "add/remove programs" thingy. the only remnants i can find are its the program files. the program is Rightmark CPU Clock Utility. its a great program... im surprised there is no installer...

yes. now that you mention it, when i was underclocking, i told it to underclock only when on battery...yet it defies me . submit unto me, thine heathen CPU!! lol

well standard laptop technology almost all modern laptops under clock your specs when running off battery power. It makes the battery last longer.
