geforce mx 4000 agp 8x

i was wondering is it possible to run my 3.06 ghz celeron D at like a slower speed? is there a program i have to use to do this cuz i cant make the cpu run slower through bios at all so i was wondering if there was a program to where i could do that?

cuz i have done it through bios on my old computer but that was different.

I'm not sure, I know in some bios you can, but fi you dont have a bios that can i dont know if there is another way

but out of curoisty why do you want to underclock it? I am curois to know.

i would like to underclock it because so when it gets very hot here in the summer it wont try to overheat and also to save its life a bit id like ot clock it at 2ghz and my bios doesnt give me the options to change the cpu clock on it so i was wondering if theres some software on the web that i can use i tried clockgen

from

http://www.cpuid.com/clockgen.php

and i couldnt get that to work for me

oh

seriously? i built the thing and i cant overclock it or under clock it :( is that cuz its not made by big company like dell or something like that?

dang

i thought i was getting something good too getting this motherboard i thought all computers can be overclocked or underclocked

hey

anybody here know how to update bios without a floppy? drive

cuz i have no floppy drive is it really that much of a neccessary need i have downloaded the bios update but i dont have a floppy and i was afraid to try it and stuff i saved the bios update to my computer.

theres a program called intel control panel i searched the web and looked and where i looked it talked about that intel will let you overclock no more then 4% but i dont knokw if i can underclock yet but i can sure find out if i update bios and use that intel control panel program after i update bios cuz wont with with my old bios

For the flashing, you should be able to download a BIOS flashing utility from their site, so that you wont need a floppy.

you'd need to lower the voltage to make a big enough difference when it comes to heat. frequency will help a little though. if you're worried about heat, i suggest getting a new cooler for the thing.
a nice cheap for for LGA 775 is the freezer 7 or for 478 the freezer 4.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835186134
freezer 7 for lga 775^

freezer 4 for 478^
also the big typhoon is probably rumored to be the best air cooler on the market... but its much more expensive and harder to install.

big typhoon, compatible with 775 and 478^

BIOS Upgrade Instructions
-------------------------

The temporary directory should contain the following four files:
README {this file}
RUN.BAT
LICENSE.TXT
DESCRIP.TXT

If all these files are not present, try extracting the downloaded
BIOS file again.

Upgrading to the Latest BIOS
-----------------------------

1. Enter BIOS SETUP by pressing F2 repeatedly after booting the
system.
2. Write down all settings that are unique to the system. These
settings will be needed later to reconfigure the system.
Additionally you can highlight the exit menu and choose the
'Save Custom Defaults' tab. Choosing 'Yes' will cause
the current BIOS settings to be saved as a custom default
setting. When the CMOS memory is cleared during the BIOS
Update, BIOS reads the custom defaults. If the custom
defaults are not saved, the BIOS will read the factory
defaults. Press ESC to exit BIOS.
3. After booting the operating system, be sure to verify that you
have downloaded the correct BIOS.
4. Double click the Run.bat program. Place a blank floppy in drive
a: when instructed. The Run.bat program will automatically
format and create a bootable floppy and copy the BIOS files
onto the floppy.

IMPORTANT Microsoft* WINDOWS* 98 SE users. After creating the diskette
you will initially not be able to view the contents of the diskette
through Windows* Explorer or through the A: drive on the desktop.
To view the contents you will have to eject the diskette and reinsert.
Only then will the BIOS files be accessible through Windows* Explorer
or through the A: drive on the desktop.

5. Place the bootable floppy containing the new BIOS into drive
a: of the system to be upgraded and boot the system.
6. During the BIOS update, you will be given one opportunity to
cancel the BIOS update without any changes occurring to
your system. To do this, simply press CTRL+Break when prompted.
IMPORTANT!
Do not press CTRL+Break or power down your system at any other
time during the BIOS update, this could permanently damage
your system.
7. When prompted that the BIOS Update is complete, remove the
floppy and reboot the system.
8. Press F2 repeatedly during post to enter BIOS SETUP. On the first screen
within SETUP, check the BIOS version to ensure that it is
the new version.
9. If you saved the settings as custom defaults, those settings
will automatically appear now. If the system has unique settings that
you did not save by choosing 'Save Custom Defaults, re-enter
those settings now. Press F10 to save the values and exit
Setup.

Note: If you need to change the language files, press CTRL+Break when
prompted and then type Iflash.

by the what what is ctrl break?

hey thanks everybody

i went to the IntelD865PERL site and downloaded the bios and i downloaded the bios express version and installed it on my computer and it shut itself down and did what it had to do and updated the bios :)

now the only thing i need help to do is underclock it.

umm in the bios theres a thing called burn in mode so i was wondering what to do there i looked up ont he web and i hear that you can use it to control cpu clock but i dont know if thats true or not but from the site it says that my board can be overlclocked up to 4% more then what it orginally is umm if anybody can tell me what to look for in burn in mode? that would be much appreciated thanks.

by the way is there a way to post pictures in some of the post of my topics? like since im new to this computerforum i dont know how to put a picture to show you and better describe what i am facing prettymuch.

well try a manual overclockm seem strange but it will come up as a defult speed e.g. 3000mhz then you use up or down to either increase the clock speed, and also (in your case) decrease clock speed,

this is what my bios says

it lets me go to burn in mode and i can adjust the clock speed up 4% or down 2% it doesnt give me the choice to go any lower then that.

For use with the Clockgen utility, you need to know your ICS. You have to do a bit of searching to find info, but look on your motherboard for a chip with ICS and numbers. It should be near a silver thing with 14.9 printed on it.

@bigl2007
the board does not have any reasonable overclocking options as mentions for heat issues you will need to drop the vcore. But the board does not support vcore changes
Also do not play with the Burn-In options on that board it will overclock you pci/agp bus... not what you want
Finally dont bother flashing the bios, any upgrade does not offer the functionality you require and a miss-flash will ruin the board

Sorry for all the bad news
