Hi,

I really do hope someone could provide some insight in to my issue.

I recently bought an used "geforce 6800 GS Xtreme AGP card (256mb)" to replace my "ati 9200 se (128mb)".

The new card works for sure (and i love its looks:)
I can play Testdrive unlimited using the 6800 (with very low settings) which I couldn't play using my old card (the screen would crash to desktop).

My problem really is when I play FIFA2005 (yeah, its old ;)). With my previous card, the game worked perfectly without a glitch. But to my amazement, the game keeps on losing frames (kind of a video drag) in every few seconds. It is so much strain on the eyes and the game enjoyment is totally gone.

I really have no idea why the 6800 which is way better can't play fifa perfectly. Also I couldn't find any game settings that could lower the resolution, framerate etc.

Any ideas guyz?

(please ask if you need any more information: I have a P4 3.0Ghz with 1.5gb of ram and 450watt power supply-----though the computer switches off every few hours for some reason; it doesn't get too hot, i have checked. But in anycase, that should be a different problem, which I hope to post in another thread).

The 6800GS is a MUCH MUCH better card then you previous one so your problem is not the graphics card but something else causing the lag. Are you running Vista? I find that the Vista's system restore function really stuffs up Command and Conquer 3, it lagged so much even though I have a 7900GT, so turned it off and everything is better and running nicely.

It is much better. You may want to look into patches for the game. With the Need for Speed series (the older ones, ie, High Stakes and Porsche Unleashed), there's a problem with graphics cards being too good. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Another thing, have you inadvertently turned AA and AS to the max? Maybe that is why its lagging, because the 6800GS is good, but not THAT good. Not even my super clocked 7900GT can run ALL games with AA and AS to the max.
By the way, if you don't know AA and AS stands for Anti-aliasing and Antiscropic filtering respectively.
