Upgrade gpu or build new computer

I currently run a i-5 3570 3.4 gZ, 16gb ram, windows 7, 1080p montior (60hz), gtx 950 mini 2gb( I don't oc ever). Using battlefield 1 as the example I play on low settings with mesh on ultra and I easily get 60fps, but going to medium on everything causes my fps to fluctuate (45-60). Building a computer with an i7, gtx 1060, 120Hz monitor etc is going to cost over 1k. I want to know if upgrading to something like a gtx 1060 3gb or 6gb or even bigger or smaller , ie 1050 or 1070 series(assuming I can, not sure how to tell if it can), will that give me a significant boost. I know I'll bottleneck my cpu, but if I could say run on high that would be awesome. I play other games to and usually play in low-medium settings. If there is any information that you guys can provide to help me I would appricate it.

Upgrade gpu to whatever you can afford right now, because that is the problem. The 3570 is a very capable cpu, i doubt you'll bottleneck it. Either 1060 6gb or get the 1070.

You can probably stretch your computer's lifespan for a few extra years with a video card upgrade. Just be sure your existing power supply can handle the extra power required with a faster card.

I used a program and usually the gpu usage is about 80% and the cpu is about 75%. going to all medium both were in the 90's. However I'm not sure if the gpu was more powerful if that would drop my cpu usage. Would you know if my motherboard can take a 1050-1070 type card? Would you know what kind of increase I would expect ?

The 1060 would be like about double performance of the 950. What exact model power supply do you have? Any motherboard with a pciexpress slot can take the 1060-1070.

The only thing you should check out, apart from the PSU, is the size of your case. If your case is very small, then you'll have to grab a smaller video card so it fits inside those dimensions.

If your case isn't that small, I wouldn't worry about it. If you measure the length of clearance between the case where your video card fits in there to be 280mm or more, you wouldn't have to worry about it.

Hmmm I assume I could use just the same slot as my current gpu. Is there a way to know or look at to confirm? I have a crappy extreme 500 or 600 watt psu. Which I know the on rails stuff sucks. I have a corsair cx650m I would use instead. So even though the cpu usage is high I would still get most of the benefit of upgrading? As far as the length I know this card leaves me little room length and width sizes. It's right up against what I assume is the sound card, but I assume as long as I get no heat warnings I'm fine.

With nothing in it? Or with just the case open? I did look and my gtx 950 2gb mini says ddr5 pci express 3.0 x 16hdcp. So I would assume a gtx 1050-1070 would be ok.

Also is it common to need a plug in for the gpu into the psu. I only ask because the one I have now doesn't need one.

Yes, the 1060 would need a power cable going to it. Measure the length from the back of the case to where there is something in the way. Or take a picture so we can help you.

You either need to shrink it down or host the picture on a photo sharing site like imgur or photo bucket. Then give is the url to it.

tell me if that works

the current dimensions of the gtx 950
(L x H)8.66" x 4.37". i have little room left on the height side, unless it takes the room I have north of it, but i doubt that to happen and I have about an inch in length, but I assume I need a little portion for the plug in.

It seems through more research I should be ok with a gtx 1060, however your opinions still matter. My main concern seems to be which gtx 1060 will be best. I have narrowed it down to possibly 3.

They are 2 duel fans and one single fan one. Both duel fans are about 10.5-11 inches in length which if you can see by the picture will be pushing close to the edge, if not touching it, possibly only getting .25 inches of clearance, so im not sure if airflow is a concern. Its why I included a single fan so that wont be an issue. However there are some other duel fan ones that arent as long, but they dont seem to be as highly rated. I wont OC at all and i enjoy a quiet fan, which my gtx 950 2gb is always. Do you guys have an opinion on a good gtx 1060 card? I also was curious if why the model numbers dont match if looking at lets say best buy and comparing it with newegg.

I found this one on best buy for the evga gtx 1060, but the model numbers dont match, however the clock speeds seem to be the same, so im not sure if its the same or that is normal.

Many different model numbers which represent clock speed and other things. Basically comes down to what you can afford and what will fit in your pc.

Grab the MSI card. I'm rocking same design in a GTX1080 - you wont be disappointed
