Upgrading the processor?

I currently have a i5-650 processor and I am curious about how big of a difference it would be to upgrade it?

Ive read good reviews on the i5 2500k and i7 950?

Either or others, which would you get? or not upgrade at all?

my specs are in the sig

the 2500k is good tech. Thats what I would get if I were you. But it will require a new 1155 motherboard. The 1155s are on recall right now, but they are set to be rereleased next month IIRC.

Your motherboard support i5 760 or i7 870

You could upgrade to those if you don't want to change your motherboard

I probably shouldn't replace my board right now so I may go ahead and grab that i7 870.

Unless its well worth to buy a motherboard + 2500k (since the cpu is $60 cheaper to)

Yes it is worth to buy a mobo + 2500k rather than buying the 870, as the 2500k is a new one and would be the best around q2 period of the year

Money is semi tight so what would be the overall cost of a new mobo+CPU? Any suggestions?

It will be between 350 to 400$ (cpu + mobo)
But the 870 costs 290$ (cpu) and is 2 years old with base clock 2.93 compared to 3.30 +overclocking of 2500k.

Your best choice will be switching to an i7 870 for $300 since you have a p55 motherboard. If I were you I would wait till I get enough cash and also till the AMD Bulldozer releases in 2011 Q2.Then would switch my MOBO+CPU to whatever is better Sandy bridge or AMD BULLDOZER
