Video Card Issues...

Hey,

I just bought a new computer (Acer Aspire e700), it came with,
Intel Core 2 Q6600 Quad 2.4GHz
2GB DDR2 Ram
Intel GMA X3000 w/ Dynamic Memory (Intel(R) G965 Express Chipset).
And its running on Vista.

Well I figured this would be great all I needed was a new video card to top this off, so I got a Sapphire X1950 Pro cause from what I read it was a good budget card. Well I got home setup the computer and noob that I am plugged the new card right in and tried running the driver disk, and i got back it could not detect any compatible software, so I read the manual and some online descriptions and decided to take out the card disable the intel one, plug in the X1950 again and try run driver disk, same problem again. so I tried to take out the X1950 card again but as it very crammed in the case i gave up, uninstalled the intel chip, restarted the computer, and the computer then finally picked up a 'VGA compatible Video Device', so I pop in the driver disk again, and still no recognition. So now i am just running the intel chip with the X1950 still sitting in the computer but not doing anything, also when i tried every combination of plugging the monitor to the video card plugs i only got "No Signal".
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, either just help or an explanation of how to install the card (because i can reset my computer to how it was when i first booted it up and so can start from scratch), and also any tips on getting the bloody video card out lol. (oh and the fan on the card does run when i turn on the computer)

Thanks in Advance for any help!

There's normally a clip you have to flick at the end of the slot. Then take the X1950 out, put the original in and then install the X1950's drivers. Turn the comp off and put the X1950 in.....easy.:D

Oh, wait. Shouldn't the card use Microsoft drivers!! The screens should still display on your X1950 even without drivers. Is it fully seated in the slot?

Yeah its in there good, but as the Intel chip is built in it seems to always trump my x1950, but when I uninstall the Intel Chip the X1950 still won't show, and it wont let me install the drivers unless the card is recognised by the computer otherwise it say it cant find compatible hardware.

I get you now! Go into your bios (usually an F key at start up) and disable the onboard video. Then set the primary graphics as the PCI-E slot. Then it'll work like a dream. (i hope):D

hey thanks thats a big step forward! but could you give me a little more detail on what i need to do and how to do it once i am in the BIOS? as you can probably tell iam abit of a noob and i dont want to kill my computer lol.

When your computer boots, or your in the bios. What type of bios is it (name) and version and i'll try and look for a walkthrough or something. Just to be on the safe side seen as we aren't that confident, which is totally understandable as it's brand spanking new.;)

Phoenix - AwardBIOS CMOS Setup Utility

Thats the header i get when i get into my boot menu. I hope thats what you needed...

Does it look like this?

If it is, it SHOULD be in intergrated peripherals, i had that bios on my old PC. Just siable the onboard Video or choose the option 'PCI-E'.

When i go to integrated peripherals do i go to ... Onchip IDE Device?

No, it should say something about onboard video or primary graphics adapter. (i wish i still had my other computer!). Sorry about taking so long with this, i'm trying my best to remember.

Go into every option on the main menu until you find something like onboard video or primary graphics adapter. Then see what the options are.;)

all i could find that might help were...

PCI/VGA Pallette snoop
Peg/Onchip VGA Control
Video
Auto Detect PCI Clk

nothing with onboard video or primary graphics adapter :(

PCI/VGA Pallete - [Enabled/Disabled]
Peg/Onchip VGA Control - [Onchip VGA/Peg Port/Auto]
Video - [EGA\VGA/CGA 40/CGA 80/Mono]
Auto Detect PCI Clk - [Enabled/Disabled]

No worries about taking long, its just a relief to have help!

I figure (whether its right or wrong), that its the fact that I have Vista that is the reason that I cannot change my PCI slot to the default card slot. so does anyone know how to change the pci slot to the default slot in Vista?

Thanks in Advance!!!
