ey, just got a new monitor, the samsung 215tw. I've been using my ATI Visiontek 9200SE PCI card for about a year now with NO PROBLEMS like this.
Anyways, after my new 20" monitor arrived, with a native 1680x1050, compared to my old 17" 1280x1024, i started to have this problem, on a 50/50 basis:
the left side, about 4" of it would go black, 2 rows of yellow pixels would flicker vertically. the rest of the resolution would cramp up and squeeze into the part of the screen that was working fine. THE IMAGE/LINK BELOW IS A 1680x1050 resolution, CRAMPED UP IN ABOUT A 1280x1080 AREA

I have only noticed this problem using the DVI on my monitor.
component, RCA's, and VGA seem to be working alright.
when i run a test with my DVI unplugged, it seems to me that the monitor will work fine, as the "connect digital input" signs floats around the screen without the weird flickering.
-i've tried it will no drivers, using the plug and play settings, same problem.
-also with the newest drivers, for all product, same problem.
all with just the DVI.
so, what do you think?
**EDIT: this also happens on other resolutions, not just 1680x1050
