Viruss....Delete or not?

When I do a virus check and it detects a virus....should I delete it or keep it in the Vault?? I am using AVG Free Edition??

I think it's best to delete it. When you put it in the vault it just prevents from doing anything, but keeps it...I think. I've only had one virus and the poor bugger didn't make it...

I try to delete them but they keep coming back. I tried to heal them at first and it said Error during the healing process. Any help?

If a virus keeps coming back I would suggest that it is hiding in System Restore folder. No virus scanner is allowed to look in there so virii love to hide out there. Turn off System Restore, reboot, scan and when you are sure the virus is gone then turn Sys Rest back on. Personally I leave mine off at all times. Your choice.

When I run AVG - AntiSpy I get this:

Adware.Look2Me Medium (Risk)

2 Traces:

[592] C:\Windows\system32\imnathlp.dll
[668] C:\Windows\system32\imnathlp.dll
~I try and delete it...and it say can not delete, do you want to try and delete it on next start up~

Now when I run AVG - Anit-Virus I get this:

~File - lvlm0931e.dll ~Result/Infection - Trojan Horse Look2Me ~Location -C:\Windows\system32\lvlm0931e.dll

~Trojan horse Look2Me ~C:\Windows\system volume information\restore{AAOCC1EA-6B54-461A-9BEC-18403A4F4B7D}\RP127\AOO48416.dll

~Trojan horse Look2Me ~C:\Windows\system volume information\restore{AAOCC1EA-6B54-461A-9BEC-18403A4F4B7D}\RP127\AOO48415.dll

When I go into add and delete programs I have these names and no way of getting rid of them

Download HJTsetup.exe from this link http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This. Please install it there.
Continue to click "next" in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the "Select Addition Tasks" dialogue.
Put a check by "Create a desktop icon" then click "Next" again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click "Finish" and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the "Do a system scan and save a logfile" button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log and post it in this thread.

i agree with terii turn of system restore then do the virus scan although i would do the scan in safe mode when you have finished the scan delete the virus reboot into windows and turn the restore back on to turn system restore of right click my computer and select properties then you will see a system restore tab in the top left click that and the rest is easy

Plus I try to do Windows updates and I keep on getting error messages.

Disable AVG Anti-Spyware Guard and InterMute AdSubtract for now.

Run HijackThis and put a check by the following entries if still present, close all open windows and browsers except HijackThis and click 'Fix Checked'

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

Now reboot and once back in windows, post a new 'HJT' log.

You were also supposed to post the safemode scan log from AVG Antispyware.

What is Intermute AdSubtract????

Here is the new HJT Log:

Well it looks like you have a rootkit. Do the following.

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip to your Desktop.
Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Post this log.

Update AVG Antispyware. The last time you ran it in safemode, it didn't remove anything so you don't have it setup right. Make sure it is setup this way.

-Select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
Under "Reports"

Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

Reboot into safemode.

Very Important:
Make sure all security programs- Antivir, AVG Antispyware, interMute, etc are DISABLED until they are needed. They will interfere with the cleaning process.

Run SmitfraudFix

* Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.
* Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
* Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
* You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.
* The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. Reboot in Safe Mode.Save this log.

From safemode, run HijackThis and put a check by the following entries if still present, close all open windows and browsers except HijackThis and click 'Fix Checked'

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{A8BD6820-6ED7-423E-9558-2D1486B0FEEA} - (no file)
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {A8BD6820-6ED7-423E-9558-2D1486B0FEEA} - (no file)
O23 - Service: Service Hosts (ServiceHost) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\shost.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: wkssvc (Windows Kernel Serivce) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\AIMClient.exe (file missing)

Exit HijackThis but remain in safe mode.

Run AVG Antispyware - again make sure of the following settings.

Select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
Under "Reports"

Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
Save this scan log.

Reboot into normal windows and post a fresh 'HJT' log along with the safemode scan logs from AVG Antispyware and SmitFraudFix.
