Yeah first thing I did is disable UAC and Un-install all the junk software from the manufacture. I did a few reg tweaks, disabled some services, and cleaned the startup. Now its running really smooth
 
I had bad experiences with the RC1 version of it ... DRIVERS... (I wonder why :D) and didn't move to Vista until I built this rig (wanted 64bit and DX10 support)

Not that I have moved, I have to agree that vista isn't that bad (anymore).
If XPx64 was well supported I might have considered getting XP rather then Vista but... I'm happy with Vista (for the most part).

The video is great.
 
I've been using Vista Home Premium 64bit now for 5 months having used Linux for 2 years before that. Aside from an initial problem with detecting my monitor and mouse, both of which I fixed I have absolutely no complaints. This is by far the best all round MS OS I've ever used.

I ran Vista Ultimate for a bit, then returned to Windows XP.

My problems with Vista:

* Drivers and system instability (Multiple crashes and lock-ups daily!)
* Software incompatibility (With old software that isn't cost effective to replace)
* The interface (Why did they move EVERYTHING?)
* Price (2 workstations, a home server and a laptop means I would need to buy 3 additional licenses)

For me, XP is rock stable, it runs the applications that I need to run, and it doesn't cost me anything to continue to use. Those who rip on Vista based on heresay are wrong to do so, but some of us just prefer to continue to use what we feel is tried and true.

By the way, in case anyone is wondering, the key to drivers on xp pro x64 is to use the vista or server 2003 versions.

Wow, and the arrogance continues to evolves. In the future, you may want do a bit of selective-Posting when making generalities like that. What's next, making everyone feel like idiots that should be beaten then shot for not liking a particular OS? Or perhaps calling the system admins that run 1000's of computers they're useless because they don't like it, or telling the family-user that they're utterly useless and a complete tool because XP runs faster for them? Seriously, that was the kind of Post that Jabes would make:rolleyes:
 
Well I have been running Vista Ultimate SP1 for Months now and have only had one issue with my bluetooth driver but I found the download last month and no problems what-so-ever since.

I must admit, I was against VISTA purely because of bad word of mouth until I realised that if i'm going to be repairing peoples pc's running XP or VISTA, then I would need to know the newest OS. So I started using it and have not looked back since...
sure when Vista was first released it was buggy with little support , but now it's 100 x better and it only seems to be the people with lower spec machines that are bad mouthing the OS.

The trouble is it takes months/years to build a GOOD reputation and seconds to lose it !!! ;)

That's really funny. I just got Vista 64 with my laptop, and besides those constant "vista needs permission" things I love it.
 
also one thing i think they should do for windows 7 is make the memory capacity more. i mean computers are already haveing to be 64bit just because we need 4GB of memory.
 
besides the cost of Vista. I'm waiting for a couple more updates when it looks like i can rock vista on any computer and be comfortable doing so. In time vista will be better, and everyone will switch. Except my grandpa who still has Windows 98.. haha
 
Vista is slowly becoming the better OS option out there! It just took awhile for them to get everything compatible with it! I think they released it way too early.

When Vista came out it was kind of a Beta OS but, so was every other OS when they first came out. People are just forgetting the past.

Did you know that unlike XP home,XP pro and XP MCE which were three seperate OS, Vista's 5 versions are ALL on the same disk and it's just the Product key that unlocks the features of whichever version you are running !!

But the end result is still the same...... price difference ;)
 
"xp" pro 64 want actually based on xp though

it server 2003 under the hood

also it would have been impractical to have xp on one disk like vista as when xp came out

a) noone had dvd drives
b) dual layer discs cost $$$
c) piracy
