Vista Pros and Cons?

I've never seen Vista working in person and I've never used it. It looks nice but people seem hate it. Can you give some Pros and Cons of it?

i'm running it now, it's very pretty, Aero Glass etc features make it really nice, it's a power hog, your system needs to be pretty good for full features, and alot of ram.
i've had some driver issues, but once your on internet that evens out alot, and there are alot of updates initially. i dunno but right now i've been having weird problems with Explorer moving my taskbar and stuff, i dunno, i think it's because i turned the User Account w/e off...
anyway, i'd get it unless there is a considerable difference in price on any other choice, but waiting for the debugging or SP1 is a good idea

Windows vista : advantages and disadvantages so far

Well , I am using win. vista business at the moment , generally speaking it is a great operating system but there are though a bunch of disadvantages that requires a serious attention from microsoft . first of all is the compatibility problem cause a lot of software does not work with vista especially the software that is compatible with windows xp . the price of the operating system itself is another problem for so many people and that makes it almost impossible for them to buy it , therefore you see a lot of ( pirated ) editions especially on the torrent sites and i do not know how will microsoft take care of this problem but afterall I have to admit that I was disappointed after a waiting period of about 5 years .

From the experience I have had with it, they changed a bunch of stuff from XP for no good reason other than that they could, not because it was better. They renamed and restructured the files system layout for no good reason. The search function sucks out of the box, XP's worked well. As already mentioned, it's a power hog. UAC annoys to the point where many users just click continue without caring what they are giving permission to (perfect if your looking to spoof someone into giving you admin access to your malware) and, IMO, it's not even that pretty GUI-wise. I would love to give it a better review, but after so many years of development (and they dropped many potential components in order to get it out) this was the best they could come up with.

I'll wait until SP2, (yes that's right, SP2!) before I give it any serious consideration. Have I mentioned that it's bloated, and slow. I've seen machines with 2-3 GB RAM that are piss-slow running Vista. It's a real shame. A companies OS's should get better at what they do with each release, and they have dropped the ball on this one.

...And I see in the rumour mills they have another revamp (Major Build 7) in the works.

at first when i had vista (about 6mths ago) i had some troubles but I am now running vista home premium 64bit with NO problems watsoever and i love it.

I have to say I don't know why the give bullshit about vista. It's brilliant. Every day I log on. I can check my e-mail,surf the net, play somevideo games, watch films, listen to music, edit pictures, edit films, create films, write esses,do homework, sync stuff to my itouch 16gb. It's GREAT!! Now It had two glitches. One of them being the messed up sidebar which frooze your system. The 2nd one being when I logged on one day it crashed completely and I had to reinstall windows and my life on a different drive. I copied my files etc then I formated the drive:P Now since thats over the one problem I have is when I logon the wi-fi isn't being picked up I.E I have to restart the pc and logon then it's fine. But usually everyone uses Lan or cable so your safe.;) (+ I bring bad luck)

Ive got Vista Ultimate and loving it!

i havnt had any problems yet with anything ive tried running

it was slow on my old rig but aslong as you have enough ram theres nothing wrong with vista :)

urrm i have to disagree with you there mate.sorry. but thats not a fact, its a personal opinion, some people just use vista to do basic stuff, using office, photoshop, mail etc and those software works... if you were in my boots, you wouldn't say that, Vista failed me big time and i highly doubt that service pack would help.

ah amen to that.
Vista is ok, but it VARIES on what you do or job type and software you use

I was an avid anti-Vista user when it first came out, because XP had major problems when it was first released. There are always going to be bugs and glitches and driver issues, no matter how many "updates" Microsoft releases.
That said, I now am quite a fan of Vista, having run it myself for 6 months problem-free, and having my roommate run it for better than 8 months problem-free. Also, I just installed SP1, which was recently released, and it helped quite a bit. Operates much more smoothly, file transfer speed and such is increased.
The biggest problem out there seems to be not with Vista itself, but with folks trying to run Vista on a below-par system, i.e. not enough RAM, low-end CPU, and you most definitely will benefit from running a 256+mb video card.
Just my .02.....take it for what it's worth.

My point, which I think you've helped illustrate (though I'm not sure quite what the above comment was supposed to mean exactly), is that MS has put out an operating system that 90% of consumers will not be happy with. In comparison to XP, without expensive hardware upgrades, their user experience will suck. And even with those upgrades (if they can afford it), the changes that have been made to the OS don't make sense to anyone outside Microsoft's PR team, and leaves end users confused.

Most people on this forum, whether they like Vista or not, could probably get by with it because we are little more technically inclined than your average Joe/Jane. But we're not the main target MS is selling this mistake to. I work in a computer store and I see how many people have bought a new computer with Vista on it, and they are coming back confused, unhappy about the speed, and shaking their heads at what a horrible operating system it is. They want their XP back, and in the eyes of many (myself included), that makes it a failure.

But I guess in the end, it doesn't really matter what the end-user wants, because MS has already made their coin, and charges $60.00 a pop for tech support questions. Hmmm.

I'm so glad that I got Windows Vista, I hear people slagging it off all the time, and I really don't know why... (I know people are going to give reasons now I've said that ). I only had one problem with it, but that was easily sorted out! It runs far faster than XP ever did on my computer!

I think it's great! ;)

First off, do not feel I am picking on you, but I have to just get this quick point across. We as windows users are so accustomed to a failing out of the box product that we expect them to not work and require updates. We have this false perception of that is how it works, when in fact its not, Windows is just a poorly coded product overall.

Now I could go into all the reasons why it is and why it is inferior but no one will listen and few will understand where I am coming from, especially gamers. They have a very little knowledge of actual inter workings of an OS, they just want to game and windows is the OS for gaming. I am not dissing anyone here I am just stating the obvious. Its also true, windows is great for gaming, so if you want to game then yes, get windows. Be happy with your computer and do what you want to do. I am not pointing fingers or calling names to any gamer so don't even try to flame me, but when a 14 year old kid who just learned how to assemble a PC together and load windows for the first time tries to tell me I don't know what i am talking about is well hilarious on many levels. That is what gives gamers a bad rep, people like that.

However, trying out and using many other operating systems I see a trend, that they require less updates in the beginning and are more stable out of the box, but wait, doesn't an OS need 20 patches before its released? Let alone 100s and 100s of security patches each year? I slowly began to realize that windows truly is the worst coded operating system. Sure, every OS needs updates and every OS needs patches, but Windows needs them like I need air to breath.

So, please do not make the assumption that every OS out there will be crap until 2 service packs come out, because most other OSes are stable and with in a few months of release have most of the major bugs taken care of, except for windows.

I love it, i can't think of a single con about it. I have found it to be more stable than XP from my experience, and it also supports DX10 which is another plus for me.

Vista uses super fetch thus it uses more memory, it pre-loads the most frequently used programs into the memory so it speeds up the loading process.
