Wanting to Upgrade current PC... Help??

Awesome thanks!!!

So right now I am looking at:
RAM
Corsair 2GB (1GBX2) $84.99 w/ $40 rebate X 2 = $170 Before $90 after Rebate

CPU
AMD Dual Core $74.99

Video Card
ASUS Video Card $54.99 before/ $39.33 After Rebate

Which all in all comes out to $300 before rebates and $205 after rebates.
I think that is pretty good.

I know the RAM is easy to install, but what about the Video Card and CPU?

This should definitely help my computer!

You may want to consider this card. This is about the best you can do withouy needing extra power to the card.

Don't listen to anyone about any of those graphics cards. You only have a pciex1 slot... that wont support and of those gfx cards. Get a pci gfx card if they even sell them anymore.

Crap...upon second look, he's right. I didn't notice that it's offset to one
side in the diagram, so it looked like a PCI-E x16.

Look at this:
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=14972007

I'm literally installing the OS in it right now for a friend of mine at work.

Skip the 939 upgrade because you'll just have problems finding components.
I sincerely apologize about the misinformation. =C

You have a Socket 939 cpu. Obsolete.

Finding an X2 cpu for a 939 socket may be difficult.
Plus, that one poster was right, you have a PCI-E
graphics slot. Hard to find cards for that also.

Just throwing the option out if you were able to spend
a little for a new system.

So the video card and CPU that I mentioned earlier won't work?

The DDR 400 RAM will work, the Graphics Card and AM2 Processor won't.

Your Motherboard has a Socket 939 CPU Socket and will only fit Socket 939 CPU's.

The CPU you listed is a Socket AM2, which is the next generation socket after 939.

Also, if you notice the diagram, it's a PCI-E x1, which is the same size as the regular PCI slots (which I didn't notice) so you'd have to find a Graphics card that fits in a PCI slot basically.

PCI-Express x16 is a much longer slot.

I am sorry but i think i am incoorect, take alook at the slot. It is clearly to big for a pcie x1 slot. It is a pcie x16 slot. The graph is misleading because it shows that the pcie slot by showing "PCIEX1" which most probable mean there's only one pci slot, because if you look at the picture it is clearly pcie x16. Please post a picture of your motherboard, or, verify that it is pcie x16 by typing in "pcie x16 vs pcie x1" in google images. Tell us what it looks like. It actually looks like a pcie x8 after i took another look. Try this couse im not completely sure of it this is just s normal pci slot to be safe. http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...etail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku=A0683254

Wow. I'm sure the OP is officially confused, and I don't blame him. =C
I think it IS INDEED a PCI-E slot. I'm not sure if it's x16 or not since it
says "PCIEX1". That may just mean there's one slot. It's definitely NOT
a PCI slot as I thought. It's just a bit longer as you can see by my modded
pic, and the notch in the slot faces the opposite direction.

So, the RAM and Graphics card you chose should work, but not that AM2 cpu.

funny story.... My computer has been running really slow lately, for the last month or 2. Well I opened my computer up last night and was looking around and saw that 1 of my RAMs was not set properly in the slot. Der.... So I have been running on half a GB of RAM.

The diagram matches mine. the notch is towards the left hand side of the slot.

So as it stands right now I will get the 4GB of RAM and the Video card.
I think those 2 upgrades will drastically up grade my system.

Would it be worth it to upgrade the mobo?

that is a pcie x16. The x1 slots are very short. And there is the x2 3800 for 939. I'm sure you could find 1 cheap on eBay.

It would be very worth it to upgrade the mobo, it will allow you t get better components! i suggest [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131329 with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116076 give it a little overcolock if you dont want to, if you have cash to spare, get the better dual cores, if you want a quad, it will cost you much more. How much money are you willing to spend? I can give you this too http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102820 if its too much downgrade the parts a bit! also for ram get this if its not too late http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145184 athsts the ram i have in ym $2300 system and it works flawlessly, hard to oc though, its stubborn. When you get it jut give it a tiny amount more voltage and turn cas to 4. Its only 25$! This upgrade is around $290. But if money isn't that big of an option plz tell me.
