Hey guys, I was wondering which software is the best...
I personaly used windows all my life but i have used apple for a few seconds.
I also heared there's less viruses for linux and those that arent used by too many people.

please send wat u prefer the best and why...

I think Windows XP

I think Windows Xp Is the best because you get loads of good things on it like......::::: Window Office 2003 and loads of other good stuff

Boy, are you asking for trouble... that's like asking who is the best NASCAR driver or which (pick a sport) team is the best.

Some OSes are better at certain things than others. I'm a particularly utilitarian type of guy so I use whatever tool accomplishes the task at hand better, whether it be Notepad, Wordpad, or Word, if we are talking Win text editing apps. I like XP fine, but I also use and like the Linux OSes I have.

I find Windows XP Pro to be the best, since it includes a built in disk-partitioning tool, better security, network logon, better GUI, and lots more.

You need to use google before asking a question like this. This sort of question ranks with "How do I hack?" and "How do I code?". There is no best operating system, it's a matter of opinion and your personal needs.

There's very few linux viruses. This is due to the fact it only makes up for less than 5% of the operating system population :P. Even if you did get a virus, if you're using file permissions responsibly it can't do too much harm.

... and it's a good thing that Linux has only 5% of the market because 95% of the sheep who use Linux (or would use it) would be operating out of root all the time.

Good point.

Windows is usually a bit less stable XP especially. The average amount of ram need to just keep it generally stable is 512 (256 is there "recommendation" i do believe correct me if im wrong). with so many programs running on windows comes with so much spyware, macs arnt uhmm really game friendly but stable and mostly virus free.

nope, for both home and pro the min RAM required is 64Mb (128Mb recommended)......

as for the question in hand, it is very old, so many times people have bought this up, just like the AMD/INTEL debate. Personally for ease of use in general processing it has to be Windows XP Professional. However, i am partial to linux, Mandrake 10.1 rocks and the Knoppix Live DVD is pretty good for temporary solutions. Dont get me started on Mac, god i hate them and in my eyes can do NOTHING right, XP Pro and linux all the way.

Yeah, there are plenty of easy linux distros out there which are plenty easy enough for my grandparents to use. That's if they don't want to be amongst the cattle which make up the 95 percentile *Winks at Dngrsone*. Which also reminds me, 99% of the people using windows ARE operating on adminstrator, aka root ;) .

Yeah, only after you pay through your ass for them. Hell if you feel like wasting money on something you can get a great alternative for free, just give it to me.

Yeah, you sure as hell dont get that with linux. You have to go and download every thing's source and a compiler so you can use it decently.</sarcasm>

Yeah, Apple cant do a thing. I mean, using *nix as a base in the beginning was a huge mistake.

Yeah. You know all default windows install are root right? Most *nix distros make you have and use a normal user account.

juss use xp cuz evey thing is compatable with is ok
Yeah, you can use KDE & KDE Apps for windows. You just like windows because the command prompt isnt case sensitve, or else you would have to put your education into practice.

Has anyone here actually run xp with 64MB ram? Well, just to tell you, IT'S NOT PRETTY!!! We're talking like clicking the start menu, and waiting 15 seconds for it to open, and this is on a fresh install of xp, with no internet, no additional programs nothing, just after install. IT IS NOT NICE.
And may I add that there was a 900Mhz processor running this computer!

Dont over exagerate, my 233/96MB RAM runs XP fine. :P

I like Windows XP, Windows 2000, SuSE 10.0, Ubuntu 5.10, and Gentoo. All of which I like, I primarily use Windows though due to gaming, Windows 2000 is great for systems that aren't the greatest but still want to be able to perform efficiently, SuSE is great for Linux beginners, Ubuntu is great to learn to get into the actual Terminal side, and gentoo, well gentoo is one hell of an experience.

Windows XP would probably be my favorite though.

Windows XP has always been great to me. Everything supports it etc etc no complaints.

I've installed windows XP on a pentium 3, 288mb ram, geforce 2 and it ran faster than windows 98 and was 100% stable. It's a great OS.

EDIT: Actually, the only thing I don't like is the service packs. They do more harm than good.
