hmmm, not exactly a wise move from sony, but then, if you think about it, all of this publicity is getting word of mouth going a lot. This is all free advertising for them. And tis not exactly bad, somethign that price has its customers and its non-customers, at that price no amount of marketing is ever going to change the non-cutomers into customers. So all of this advertising is just enhancing the already great support for the PS3.
Dont get me wrong, i DO think tis way overpriced, even for a blu-ray player aswell (quoted in the bestbuy leaflet) i still dont hink its worth it, a massive company like sony could probably produce their own BD players for a fraction fo the price and not have to have so much % markup on them.
Again, you could look at it in a way that haing such a high price tag is sectioning the PS3 into a league of its own, its for the elite and noone else, ony the best can have it. Which is a good thing
I would like to add that i am not planning to buy a PS3, in about 6 weeks im spending £900 ($1700 USD) on a new PC, so this is definately out of it. I have a PS2 if i ever want to go semi-retro and play some Tekken or Hitman:C47....
This rivalry between consoles i think is utterly pointless, i mean c'mon, the Wii is way out of everything elses league, its a childs play thing, a family toy, its not a feesible future console, it will be short lived just like every other nintendo creation. The Xbox 360 compared to the PS3 is still a long way off, the PS3 is a whole nother stage higher than the 360, so MS are bringing out "add-on" players for the 360, not quite as good as having it all integrated and built in is it... sort of ruins the sleek sexy look of your expensive console...
My my, that was a rather long rant.... One point turned into evaluation of 6 others, lol
ah well, dragon
