what gpu do I have?

One of our work computers is running vista x64 and there are a bunch of drivers missing but I can not figure out what the hell my vga driver is

There is a dvi output, hdmi output and vga. I opened the pc up and I didnt see any nvidia or ati symbol.

Is there some sort of freeware driver detection tool that works?
 
yeah it boots to the internet but if I try to update driver it says it can not find it, if I type in the dell service tag it gives me the choice from about 15 different drivers.


It has an i7 processor with 12 gigs of ram, two hardrives but a geneneric vga? theres no way thats possible. I opened the pc up and I couldnt read anything on the top of the gpu, I didnt feel like removing the card to see the underbelly of it because of the static electricity.. I figured there was some sort of freeware driver utility I could use to try to find which driver I have.


I also tried using the nvidia "find driver utility"

it did not find a nvidia chipset, it just said my generic gpu is up to date

ati doesnt have a utility like that, or at least I could not find it

If you look in device manager..does it say the name? or maybe it just says VGA adapter, it there isnt a driver installed?

I searched a database listing of individual gpu device i.d. numbers and the i.d. in your screen shot matches with the Radeon 4350 gpu.

I'm not an expert by any means but hopefully it gives you an angle to solve the drive issue!:)
 
sorry for this off topic bit but why is the the windows score a 1.0 that seems pretty low for an i7 with 12gb of ram

It's because the score goes by the lowest subscore. In this case, because the system is only recognizing his display adapter as the on-board, generic, VGA adapter, the score will be subjected to a 1.0 ranking on the graphics portion of the scoring system, as the system currently can't run the AERO interface or probably any real 3D content.

Once he solves the display issue, I don't doubt that the score will become 4.0 or higher!
 
The guys from Bit Tech had a chat with AMD and heard the low-end RV710 and mainstream RV730 GPUs will be available in September '08 - these cards will offer competition to NVIDIA's GeForce 9500 GT and GeForce 9800 GT. The reporter also heard AMD is on schedule to deliver its first 45nm processors in the fourth quarter of this year:

9500 GT / 4550 is what I'm finding online.
 
The thing is, under name, it should tell you what you have

Mine says, nVidia GeForce GTX295.

where do you plug the cable? to the back of the motherboard or on an actual card?

i think he might have an integrated...

I might be wrong though, but even my x1650 used to tell me the model number...

so i doubt a new card wouldnt give that information...

Again, I'm not 100% sure on the 4350 being the right one..but the device ID matches, the 4350 uses the RV710 chip, and is 55nm.

The device ID on the 4550 is 1002-9540, not the 954F as indicated in the posted screenshot--which matches against the 4350!

This is true but if there isnt a driver installed, as far as the computer knows, there is no card installed and it won't show a name of the card--only a generic VGA adapter!
 
yeah, true that (probably)

best thng you can do, google everything that GPU-Z tells you. and see if you can find anything.

Try RV710, Device ID, etc...
 
its not intergrated , I opened it up, its pci-E

Its an important computer, I'm scared if I put the wrong driver on there it will screw everything up

The work computer I am talking about is using vista x64 btw
