What is Normal CPU temperature?

I just built my first computer. I was wondering if there was a normal temperature for the CPU? Mine is running at 51 degree celcius.

What about the video card?

What about the motherboard itself? The northbridge/soughtbridge? My motherboard is around 45-47 degrees celcius.

What cooling have you got in the case??? What cooling have you got for the Video card + CPU?

My setup is as follows:

- Asus Maximus Extreme Motherboard
- ATI Radeon HD 3870 512 mb video card - all I have here is the standard fan that came with the card (it's attached to the card)
- Intel Core 2 Quad 2.66 mhz - here I have the heat sink and the standard fan that came with the CPU
- My case also has 4 fans of various sizes.

I am considering water cooling but am not sure if it is necessary

I think that 51 is too hot for that CPU, have you made sure that you have applied the thermal paste properly? Or have you replaced it in the last year or two?

Also I don't think that water cooling would be necessary.

I don't think 51 is too hot, it is pretty warm butnot *too* hot, as long as the temps stay under about 60-65 degrees under full load it should be fine. I do have to say that if the thermal paste was properly applied (and not old) and the heatsink is mounted properly, temps should be some, say, 10 degrees lower.

Yeah i would say get better cooling for the CPU and maybe for video card.

Because mine sits at 30C on a hot day and down to 17C at the moment.

That's pretty warm for that CPU, but not really dangerously hot. Check your clips, they might not be clipped on correctly.

You know what I meant. (Above normal)

I think normal Q6600 without OC with stock fan is around 40-45 degree...

Did you tidy up your cables? And did you install case fans?

you must live in a very cold place or your sensors are off. there's no way you can have the CPU run cooler than ambient on air or water

Is your room temperature even at 17ºC (~63ºF)? Your computer can't be cooler than your ambient unless you have some sort of AC cooling.

Well i have the standard CPU cooler and have one fan in the back of the box.... there is a air vent on the side of the box but otherwise i do no other cooling..... the CPU Fan has a good heatsink on it.... i'm using core temp and it say 20C at the moment. PC Wizard says 28C (but this is the average)... and i think when i looked at the BIOS it was the same as the Core Temp.....

Thanks

Thanks everyone. I made sure all my connections were correct and the temperature went down. Right now my temp is as follows:

CPU - 41 C
Mobo - 40 C
North Bridge - 47 C
Sought Bridge - 41 C

I am using Asus PC Probe to monitor the temperature. The PC probe is telling me everything is good except the North Bridge which is highlighted in red. Apparently 47 C is too hot.

Oh an my video card is 56 C (according to my ATI program). I have 2 video cards in cross fire mode. They are packed pretty tightly and I guess that's why they are so hot. Any ideas on how to cool them?

use realtemp program. it has better correction for temps because the cpu sensors will not give a linear realationship

your CPU is running a bit hot, but it shouldnt be a big problem, but if your computer starts crashing, that might be it

That has to be a faulty reading. Whats your room temperature?

post a pic of the insides of your computer!

did you spread the thermal paste evenly over the cpu?

what i do is spread it with the back end of the tube so its even (ish) then before securing the fan/heatsink ont the cpu i put it on and give it a bit movement in circular movements (no pressure)

lets keep in mid this a a quad core CPU 51c is a average temperature considering its probably producing around 200watts of heat at stock clock
