My setup is as follows:
- Asus Maximus Extreme Motherboard
- ATI Radeon HD 3870 512 mb video card - all I have here is the standard fan that came with the card (it's attached to the card)
- Intel Core 2 Quad 2.66 mhz - here I have the heat sink and the standard fan that came with the CPU
- My case also has 4 fans of various sizes.
I am considering water cooling but am not sure if it is necessary
I don't think 51 is too hot, it is pretty warm butnot *too* hot, as long as the temps stay under about 60-65 degrees under full load it should be fine. I do have to say that if the thermal paste was properly applied (and not old) and the heatsink is mounted properly, temps should be some, say, 10 degrees lower.
Yeah i would say get better cooling for the CPU and maybe for video card.
Because mine sits at 30C on a hot day and down to 17C at the moment.

you must live in a very cold place or your sensors are off. there's no way you can have the CPU run cooler than ambient on air or water
Is your room temperature even at 17ºC (~63ºF)? Your computer can't be cooler than your ambient unless you have some sort of AC cooling.
Well i have the standard CPU cooler and have one fan in the back of the box.... there is a air vent on the side of the box but otherwise i do no other cooling..... the CPU Fan has a good heatsink on it.... i'm using core temp and it say 20C at the moment. PC Wizard says 28C (but this is the average)... and i think when i looked at the BIOS it was the same as the Core Temp.....
use realtemp program. it has better correction for temps because the cpu sensors will not give a linear realationship
