What is the right notebook for me? AMD or Intel?

So I'm looking at HP notebooks because I need an upgrade and I'm trying to figure out which one of these to get.

The Intel notebook, with a lesser video card...

-I would get the 2.4 ghz processor and the 8400gs GPU

Or the AMD notebook, with a stronger video card...

-I would get the 2.2 ghz processor and the HD3450 GPU

I really don't have enough knowledge of processors to figure out which one is better. I have never used an AMD before and I know they have some different qualities that Intel processors don't have. I do however like the fact that the AMD notebook has a better GPU and is cheaper, I just would like to know if it would be a good choice to go with the AMD. BTW, I'm going to use this computer for mostly school work and I do some gaming too, not extreme gaming though, I don't mind playing on low quality setting if I need to.

Also, I have only looked at Gateway, Dell, and Alienware laptops and if anyone has any other suggestions I would be open to them. These are just the ones I liked the best so far.

Thanks.

I like AMD notebooks, as they run so much cooler, so its less painful and quieter on the lap.

my AMDs are x86-64
