I just got my new board, cpu, and memory. when I turn it on, almost nothing. the fans come on but that's about it. also, there's no beeps

We need to make a sticky about this problem as it's VERY typcial. Search around the forums, you should find a good few other's who have had the same problem

well, i read another post where someone mentioned a 4 wire power plug. i've plugged that in and now nothing works. even with it removed still nothing

Im not trying to be mean, but just pointing something out, you are definitely the most strict moderator of them all.

I'm just being the "Hey, are you sure it's plugged in?" guy, but is that power supply a sure thing? Is it good?

And, as far a removing the RAM, seems to be a good call if your mobo has a set amount and you have exceeded it.

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious.

Dude what does it matter what the_other_one says he is a mod and has all rights to say that. Sheesh. About your problem my guess is ram or possibly not all the pins are in correct on the hdd ribbon cable try that!

i have read other post but i'm at a lost. i've troubleshooted as much as i could. i tried a back-up power unit and the fans and all came on. I then turned it off and plugged in the 4 pin plug and nothing, unplug it and nothing. did i just ruin 2 power units?

dont be sorry for stating the obvious. The obvious, such as rewiring, RAM, bad hardware, is the majority of the problems.

yeah, i've tried all that. unfortunately i only have the ram that i bought with the board and the one cpu. it doesn't leave much for trouble shooting.

Thank you...so noted.

And checking the cables (a la the hdd cable) and jumper settings (a big overlooked item) are always good things to check off of the list.

yeah, i guess i should have listed the specs. it's been a long day.

mobo - gigabyte GA-M51GM-S2G
cpu - AMD Athlon 64 X2 (socket AM2)
ram - A Data DDR2 667 (2 sticks of 512MB)

Is the ram in the correct slots? I had an AMD K8 board that, although the specs said one thing, once I took it in they got it to run in the two other slots.

I called gigabyte tech support. Anyway, the comp boots but right before the windows logo it restarts and it stays in that loop. Any ideas?

It installed windows fine but on first full boot it just restarts when it gets to windows, try starting in safe mode
