Well i would say that Seagate is the best..but thats my opinion.

Ive had a WD fail me:cool:...but cant say there not good just because one fails.

Well I have used seagate my entire life so I gotta go with them.

Though some of their drives have been REALLY bad as of late...the one in my sig so far has been beyond fantastic doubling the speed of my .10 drive in every mark.

I wouldn't hesistate buying either a Seagate or a Western Digital hard drive. I think both companies make decent quality drives. I wouldn't buy an 11th generation Seagate drive though. I've heard that a higher quantity of the hard drives of the 11th generation produced by Seagate are defective.

I have had WD, Seagate, Maxtor, and Hitachi. All of the drives I have are good quality drives. I have had 1 Hitachi drive with a SMART failure, the drive still worked but Hitachi sent me a replacement just because the drive could "potentially" die, I think that is excellent so I won't vote because I think they all make good drives.

Anymore, western digital. Seagate has had alot of failures as of late, and ive had to do 3 rma's on two drives... I used to buy nothing but seagate though. Ive had failures from pretty much any manufacturer out there, but anymore the lowest failure rate i have come across have been western digitals.

They all use the same components, if you go buy a LaCie external drive it will have WD or Seagate drives in it.

The only differences really is the firmware, which is written by the company. Other than that, physically they all use the same parts.

I have had all brands fail on me. The last few years I have been using the cheapest ones I can get, typically OEM Samsung. Haven't had one fail yet.....<knocks on wood>!

Western Digital all the way. My brother has had a WD for about 5-6 years now under a lot of stress and it's still running strong!

I have a pair of OEM Samsung 150GB drives in RAID 0 in my daughters computer. They have been rock solid for almost 5 years! ***Knocks on wooden computer desk also***

I choose WD, they have never failed on me. I have a WD external for almost 4 years and it is rock solid. A trip to Iraq and a trip to Afghanistan with no issues.

I have had my 2 x 160GB in my rig for about 2 years, no issues.

I have a 320GB WD Black in my laptop for about 2 months now, huge speed increase in EVERYTHING:eek: I am very pleased with it. I did a fresh install of Vista Ultimate 64bit in a little under 15 minutes from putting the CD in to desktop screen:D

not seagate....after 9 months the drive failed :(...just ordered myself a WD :)

yeah me too, not seagate. just cause my first fail hdd is a seagate but i cant believe seagate is at second place on the poll. i was expecting it is cheap.

i might go for western digital or hitachi next.

Too bad it's not a multiple poll. I find Western Digital and Seagate to be the best. Maxtor comes in at a good third. I've had both Fujitsu and Hitachi drives for my laptops and I have not liked their performance. They also seem to have the highest fail rate - almost all of the hard drives that fail in the computer shop I work in are either one of those two brands.

Maxtor has always had a bad reputation. Has that changed since Seagate purchased the company?

Not sure as far as the numbers, but i sure havent bought any for a long time. Just like hitachi back when they bought ibm's hard drive division with the deskstar, aka the deathstar... I still wont buy a hitachi drive.

haha. I've owned my 1TB Deathstar for a couple years... I'm about to sell it. I haven't had any issues with it, but I bought a larger drive so I no longer need it. Dude, back in 07 I paid 400$ for that drive. It was the first 1TB drive released and I had to have it. I feel like such a n00b. :P
