Which PSU should I get out of these three?

Hey guys/gals! I am building my dad a new computer and we have all the pieces picked out except for the PSU. We have narrowed our search down to these three PSUs. Could anyone give me some advice as to which one is better. All three PSUs are from OCZ as they are having a MIR sale and my dad is on a tight budget.

*Prices are in Canadian funds
1. OCZ 600W ModXStream Pro Power Supply ---($60 after MIR) ($83 Regular)
2. OCZ 550W Fatal1ty Series Power Supply ---($50 after MIR) ($71 Regular)
3. OCZ 550W Z-Series -----------------------($52 after MIR) ($88 Regular)

The ModXStream has a bigger 140mm fan.

The Z-series PSU has a 5 year warranty over the 3 year warranty of the other units however I don't think the Z-Series 550W PSU is module and I really hate not having a module PSU. It also only has 4 sata connectors over the 6 sata connectors the other two PSUs have. It is however the most money at the regular price, has that nice 5 year warranty, and is 80 Plus Silver Certified (Ultra-High Efficiency over 88%).

The Fatal1ty has a 135mm fan and is of course endorsed by some gamer guy but I could care less about that.

We are leaning more towards the ModXStream ATM due to the bigger 140mm fan and module design however if the Z-Series 550W is much better we can live with the 4 sata connectors and non-module design.

Just a note: I usually don't count rebates in the final price. This is because rebates take VERY long to validate and get to you and that's if they get to you at all.

I wish they would get rid of rebates all together and knock that amount off the price instantly. The only reason they do rebates is because most people do not mess with the rebate.

Out of those 3, I think I would pick the ModXStream due to it being modular plus it leaves a little more room to upgrade.

Thanks for the advice.

Who doesn't hate rebates, lol... However I don't see why I shouldn't count the price after rebate to make my decision since I will get the rebate eventually.

The Fatal1ty PSU is also module however 50 watts less and I'm guessing the Fatal1ty is nothing special except for the name.

If the Z-Series is more efficient though, I could live with it not being module.

Well, the Z-series is 80 plus silver certified which would make it more efficient than the others. I don't know how much of a difference it is.

Personally, I would never buy a recertified any thing computer related or recommend one to someone else. Why do you think recertified equipment is so cheap?

Recertified stuff is fine, its cheap because it can have slight cosmetic blemishes and such, because it was returned and repaired or returned and found to be in working order. If something is majorly wrong you will find out in a relatively short amount of time.
heres a 1010watt for $55. no rebates or anything. Its an OCZ too.

The 1010W GameXStream was a horrible unit to begin with. SVC has a 700W GameXStream however that is an excellent unit, and actually i recently purchased one myself.

Of those three units, the Z series is the best one, and i highly recommend it due to its high efficiency as well as plenty of power on the +12v rails(over 95% of total power is available to the +12v rails)

I like Rebates. I get cheaper parts b/c other people don't fill out their forms correctly. Yeah it can be a PITA - if there's a problem - but in my experience - they pay out - and with online tracking - all is good :good:

I've read not to count on Tiger Direct's rebates though - so never tried them.

Yeah, i personally have sent in around 20 rebates to tiger direct, and have never got a single one back. Newegg on the other hand i get probably 9/10 of the rebates i send in.

Doesn't rebates get sent back to the manufacturer instead of the website from where you bought it at? Why would it make a difference where you buy it?

Yeah that's what I was just thinking..

Thanks for the advice guys.. I will probably go with the Z-Series PSU due to the better efficiency and 5 year warranty.

Nope, most of the rebates on tigerdirect are through tigerdirect themselves, on newegg most of them are manufacturer rebates.

Hey haven't checked back here in awhile... Sorry for not replying sooner.

System Specs:
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3
CPU: AMD Black Edition Phenom II X3 720 (2.8 GHz)
GPU: EVGA 8800 GTS (320MB)
RAM: 2x1GB Patriot Extreme Performance DDR2 PC2-6400 (800MHz)

I would of defiantly got the Corsair over the OCZ. The Corsair is what I am running in my rig and I have heard tons of great stuff about them and have had no issues with it (even when I had 2x8800GTS in SLI). At the time Corsair did not have a rebate and would of cost $90 CAN compared to $55 CAN for the OCZ. I remember telling my dad we should get the corsair but he didn't want to pay that much money for it. The Corsair now has a rebate that drops it down to $60 CAN which we would of definitely gotten at that price. Weird, the link you posted says $10 MIR but the Canadian store I am shopping from (NCIX) shows a $21 MIR. Corsair must like us Canadians better :P :P :P
