Why won't you work!!

Test each component. Sounds like motherboard may be going out. Either that or its sleeping and failing to come out of sleep state properly.

Does anyone know of any way of sorting this because its really bugging me now. I have an RMA with scan open but I really don't want to have to take it all apart to send it all back to have to wait weeks for them to sort it. Like I said when it's been left for about 6 hours it does turn on for a few minutes. If I can just have it on long enough to upgrade the bios hopefully it should fix it. Any ideas?

It may well be more than the mobo, or not even the mobo, but to me it looks like it from here.

Take it to or shop, or do some extensive tests if you can.

You will need to remove every component from the case and visually inspect it for any anomalies (like bulging capacitors).

  1. Remove CPU from socket and carefully inspect the motherboard pins for irregularities. Do the same for the cpu being careful how you handle it.
  2. Clean the cpu and cooler with isoprol-alcohol (available at hardware stores), and replace with good quality (e.g. Arctic Silver 5) as per instructions. Replace CPU and cooler.
  3. Lay the motheboard on a large peice of cardboard.
  4. Connect all motherboard power connectors to the motherboard ensuring you connect 6/8 pin cpu connector.
  5. Remove the CMOS battery
  6. Connect only, mouse, keyboard and onboard vga. (leave graphics card out).
  7. Connect on 1 stick of RAM (not hdd, cds or anything else)
  8. Replace CMOS battery
  9. Boot and set default bios settings
  10. Renter bios and set time and other specific settings for your needs.
  11. Shut down.
  12. Connect your boot drive only.
  13. Enter windows.
At that stage repost. We will download and run memory tester (Memtest) on each RAM module first.

I've done that but still not turning on :(. But will leave CMOS battery out for an hour to let it reset completely then will try again later. Scan have asked me to send back every component I think is broken but as I can't really test it. And the fact I've had nothing but trouble with them from day one they will have it all back. Assembled. They can sort it. Unless I get it going now

Interchange the rest of the RAM modules just to make sure it isn't something simple.

If that doesn't fix it, then you can be fairly confident that the mobo is buggered.

My guess too, its the motherboard. Have you got another computer you could try the power supply in or a tester. Good supply but it happens.

I can't get into the bios to do anything. And I'm going to try it again in about an hour so it's had plenty of time to reset. I have noticed if I leave it for like 5 or 6 hours it turns on for a few seconds longer normally

would mean something if he could get to the bios...at this point i would take what components you can to a shop and see if they can help you pinpoint the problem. could be something simple like the ram, or something like a bum cpu...rare case there though. might cost a slight fee but its sometimes the cost of doing a first build. My first build was hard, but ive made it :)

Just one last thing before you RMA the motherboard. Please tell me that you have the little speaker connected? Is there any beeps? If so what are they?

Also confirm you have interchanged the RAM
