Hi this is also in regard to another post where my P4 550 was idling really high, Iver tried reinstaling the heatsink 3 times, and i cant get the temperature to lwer, Ive tried to put the Arctic silver on many different ways now i think i have too much on i just put a small blob in the middle at let the heatsink spread it out, (swiftech mcx775-v). I've also stripped one of the shitty plastic screws out of four that come with the heatsink, so now i have to make it a mission to remount the heatsink, and its even worse to take it off.
I tried to spread it but if i have a really thin layer of it my computer hits 80 degrees on boot up. this blob i have right now is idling at 60 - 63, which i still belive is too high for a p4 550.
I am going to right now run prime95 in the torture test, for 8 hours or so while i sleep, maybe more. I might just need to let the bob burn in? lol I just wanted to know will the cpu shut off the computer if it reaches a temperatur it thinks is too high?
everybody says that as soon as they use arctic silver that they see an immediate improval of temps. bte i use 99% isopropyl alcohol to clean the cpu and heatsink.
btw: i have an Asus P5AD2-E premium.
