will an AMD Athlon X2 4200 do good on games like FEAR if its just 2.2GHZ?

dude you still need ram which will cost you around 150-200

what I could do is get 2x 512MB and get 2x 256MB to give me a total of 1.5GB and will spare me a few. I can get 256MB for as little as $25 and 512MB for $58 giving me $166 for RAM:( ...That is a lot, but I have no problum just getting PC4200 RAM (which I can get 1GB for $52).;)

you mean for $3 more,..right?

but I don't see how it beats the AMD thought,

That E6300 is $184 because it is only the CPU (OEM).. You will have to purchase an aftermarket HeatSink and Fan for the CPU which will probably take you over the $200 it usually is when you buy it retail ;)

Read here: http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic56593.html

I have my E6300 overclocked @ 3.4 Ghz on stock cooling, and it's running stable (AFAIK). So trust me, the E6300 is much better than the X2 4200+. :)

You don't really need a different cooler, since the stock one is more then enough for the Core 2 Duo.

Besides that, everything looks good. But depending on how many amps your psu has, you may run into problems in cpu/video intensive apps.

OEM processor. good luck with the build. but 2 is not necessarily better than 1. and believe those guys when they tell you, the vid card is the main part of your build, not the proc, but you will be happy that you fit in a 6300 conroe with this build.

edit, are we sure this guys motherboard can handle Conroe?, conroe is such a pain in the ass with these motherboards. thats one definite advantage of AM2/939.

That mobo doesn't support Core 2s. Here's one that does: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813135022. Plenty of others, depending on your budget: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...tyCodeValue=0&Submit=Property&SubCategory=280

Heatsynk-$27- http://www.xoxide.com/tt-silent-775.html (got a 4.8 out of 5 in rating)
No need for the extra HSF, particularly if your on a tight budget.

GPU-$119- 7600GT (maybe I'l get it-I'll have to save up) http://www.provantage.com/xfx-pvt73puds3~7PINE05V.htm
That's a somewhat overpriced, questionably marketed, 7600GS. A 7600GT would be a better choice: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814133150. If that's a little expensive, a 7600GS can be found at a much cheaper price, but is less than balanced for a Core2 based gaming system: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814143054

Don't plan on SLIing budget cards. The performance increase isn't worth the additional cost

Well this sux...I went to the link you game me and the only affordable one doesn't have SLI. Well, to be honest, that breaks to bank. the only reason I could get that GPU is because the MOBO was so cheep. I guess I'll have to make another list.:(

lol wuts your budget... i have a computer that i can sell you... its got an x2 3800+ overclocked to 4600+ speeds in it, and a 7800gt with a 250gb hard drive in it.. pm me if you're interested.

lovely?

An X2 3800 would probably do just as well. You should worry more about the video card than the processor.
not necessarily, some games are more dependant on cpu's, some on ram, some on gpu's, fear is a heavy-hitter all around, so yeah, DO worry about the cpu, it's imortant... not like you could run f.e.a.r. on a amd 2700 @1.6ghz :)

Games hit all around, but the vga card is your main priority, the 7300 cards are all crap and don't perform too well at all, they are budget cards for the every now and then game.So trust me and everyone else who tells you the 7300 card is garbage, cuz its the only truth about it.And yeah, that mobo does support C2D.I hope we're being paid service for helpin ya out so much :p.BUT!I would not buy that mobo if you buy an nvidia card, thats a crossfire mobo so you can only crossfire 2 ATI cards, you should find an SLI board unless you plan on going ATI.

Well, he might not want to go the Crossfire or SLi route at all... But anyway, If you're planning to overclock a Conroe, don't buy that motherboard.

Say, what MOBO for around 100-120 that supports C2D with SLI is there? There has got to be some that will be good for OC the CPU!

i dont think that any C2D MOBOs support SLI only Crossfire.
