Will I loose my HL2 progress...

Pretty sure you need to back up
C:\Steam\SteamApps\ [steam username] \half-life 2\hl2\SAVE

in order to not loose your saved games.
 
So is there a file I can just copy? Because I'm not able to boot into Windows, but I can access my files via an Ubuntu Live CD and save them to a seperate partition.
 
If you can open steam through ubuntu then there is the option to right click the game and then click create backup.

If you can;t do that all .sav files are, strangely enough, save files. Back all then up and make a note of where they go and then if you put em back you should be good to carry on as you were

OK, sounds good. I'm just backing up the whole steam folder... that way I'll have everything. :)

be careful with that, i did that when i swapped from vista to 7 back to vista and ended up losing everything
 
lol yea hopefully they should be fine, i think it was my silly fault for putting it over a couple of times and trying to install while it was going and all sorts of craszy stuff because it wouldnt work on most games at all at first. It then worked but PB wouldnt beceause of it being wrong files and stuff even after i updated and then updating again made it reset my profile.

Hopefully because it isn't online and tif it is the online you are worried about it is VAC not PB so should be good
