dude you have no experience with pcs whatsoever,im not saying im exactly full of knowledge when it comes to pcs either but i dont shout out some advice if im not sure if its correct or not.

I check my 9600 GSO card specs--it says it can handle dvi resolution of 2560 x 1600 . How big of a monitor would that be?

A single 4870 is good to, and you will have the option to CF later if you want

That's true. You definitely don't want to run that resolution with that card (the 9600 GSO). Dual 4870s' would be a good setup for that res.
