Hey everyone,
So I am looking at building a screaming rig, however this is not really my forte. Not that I don't know computer hardware but I know it seems like I always pick something that won't work. So please let me know if this will work and if you have any suggestions on maybe using different parts. Thanks.

Looks all compatible to me at a glance. Only thing I would suggest is more storage. At least, personally, I can't get by on just 500 GB in a computer, but that's my preference. Otherwise, everything looks pretty solid to me, nothing stands out, should be a overall solid system with those parts. I'd hang around and see what some of the other guys say about it, though.
 
Looks pretty good. I'm not a fan of the PSU though, since this is what I consider a high end build.
The CX-line is perfect for budget builds, around 300-500W.

XFX Core Edition 750W This is built by Seasonic, same wattage and about the same price.
Your build will use about 550W at peak (without further overclocking), but you want some headroom for the PSU. 600W isn't enough imo, and I couldn't find any quality 650W/700W PSUs at Newegg at a good price.
 
Origin Saint - I may upgrade the storage with a second drive in the future but storage is not as much of a concern as I have 1TB of onedrive storage and 2TB of storage on a File server in my house. But as needed I may add a second SSD in the future based on usage.

Jiniix- If no one apposes then I will opt for the psu you recommended as I understand what a PSU is and the purpose but the quality of each one if foreign to me.

Beers- No I am not married to any specific brand of anything, I am looking at what will fit my needs, please correct me if my logic was off track. This machine I am building will be doing some gaming for sure, however I planned on doing a lot of virtual machines as well. The logic is that this AMD offers 8 cores at 4.7 GHz per core, essentially each core can count as a virtual CPU which would allow me run some serious power house virtual machines or several mid level virtual machines. Would my logic be wrong? Would Intel be able to provide me that same aspect? If so at the price of this AMD processor what Intel CPU would you recommend?

I know some may say for the virtual machine aspect more storage and RAM would be necessary but in the future I plan on putting in a dedicated SSD for my virtual machines to run off of and add another 16 GB of RAM.

As far as my knowledge is concerned, I'm fairly sure that Intel and AMD are on pretty level playing ground with VM usage, I'm not really sure if one would be definitively better than the other. Personally, I would look into an Intel instead of an AMD if you're willing. Intel, among other things, has a much healthier release cycle for new processors than AMD, meaning a lot more wiggle room in the future for improvements and whatnot. I would suggest looking into an Intel i7 6th generation (Skylake) processor for your needs.

I hadn't really thought about this. If you're building a "screaming" system, I would look into getting an EVGA or XFX/SeaSonic PSU at around 700 - 800 Watts. Jiniix is right, the Corsair CX series is great for mid-range builds, but they aren't the most reliable/reputable on the market, and if you're looking for something beastly, I'd take the cautious route to be sure. PSU is, imo, the most brand-reliant component of any system, choose carefully and read reviews and ask questions.

I am surprised I have not seen anyone say anything about going with Nvidia over Radeon. Guess I am on the right track with picking Radeon over Nvidia?

Well, as far as gaming is concerned, the Radeon series is generally a better price/performance ratio, but the trade off, and what's left for you to decide is if the extra bit of heat output and power consumption is worth it. If so, I dont think it really matters much. I personally like NVIDIA better, but its preference.
You may want to research around or something, but the NVIDIA GRID technology gives their cards a boost for VMs, if I'm not mistaken. I don't know too much about that feature, or VMs in general though.

Their only benefit is the cost. The top of the line AMD 8 core CPU still barely touches a mid-ranged Intel i5 CPU in most tasks. If you get a decent Intel i7, you are well above the performance of the best AMD AM3+ CPU.

Personally I like nVidia better, mainly due to their drivers, but AMD does have good prices.

This is pretty much spot on.

AMD processors are terribly inefficient for the numbers they boast. They're alright performing parts, especially on a budget, but for anything more than a modestly priced gaming machine, you'd do yourself a disservice not to get an Intel chip. The efficiency gains in terms of electricity consumption, heat, and processing grunt are so much better for an Intel chip.

I'm a car guy, so I typically liken this kind of thing to cars. AMD would be a big old American V8 engine from the 80's. It's got huge numbers (8 cylinders, large displacement), but terrible fuel economy, noisy, and meh power given its size. Now take a turbo 4 cylinder from the modern era. It's got small numbers (4 cylinders, small displacement), but has equivalent to or even great power output than the old V8. Similarly fuel consumption is much better, sound is quieter, and you can still boast the same amount of horsepower or easily more. Also, you could think of a turbo as hyper threading (for an i7 at least) as it's improving efficiency without taking a drastic toll in terms of increased fuel or cylinders/displacement.

Both engines will get you from point A to point B, and even with a smile on your face, but the turbo 4 is a much more economical and logical purchase. If you don't know or care about cars, ignore this entirely, but it's a point to be made.

Now I greatly enjoy my AMD processor, it does what I need (moderate gaming) with ease, and wasn't too expensive. Now though I'd never suggest it because it's dated, in an old socket that is likely dead, and the single core performance is annoying in certain situations. Also the fact that there aren't anything more than vague whisperings of a new AMD chip after 2+ years isn't reassuring. Also that 9590 is, from what I've heard, an 8320/8350/8370 with a huge TDP increase to 220 watts just to enable really high clock speeds.

AMD GPU's are solid. Driver support won't always be as good as Nvidia, but I have minimal problems with mine over the past 4 years. Power consumption and heat aren't all that different in my experience either, but there is a bit. At a specific price point, an Nvidia GPU might be a better buy, or vice versa. Really just depends on what you're spending.

I've been using AMD hardware almost exclusively for 4 years now (2 CPU's and 4 GPU's) and am fairly opinionated about it by now.
 
Thanks everyone for all the points brought up, I get it and everything makes sense. So I would like to keep the configuration the same except move to an Intel CPU. For the graphics and after some online reading I think I would rather go Nvidia especially after reading some of Nvidia's bragging with Direct X12. Here is the CPU I am looking at

The new Skylake chips will need DDR4 RAM, so you'll have to swap that out too. Intel is better, but it's not exactly cheap.
 
The Intel setup all looks fine to me. The 750W PSU is probably overkill, maybe go for a Corsair RM650 instead which is higher quality, fully modular and has 80+ Gold efficiency - that will matter when running a powerful graphics card like the 390. 650W will be fine for a single card.

@Darren Skylake CPUs can use DDR3 or DDR4 RAM, it depends on the board you get - a bit like the later Core 2 Quad CPUs which could work with either DDR2 or DDR3 but what you used depended on the board you used. It's the same situation here with Skylake and DDR3 and DDR4. Intel lists the 6600K as being compatible with both DDR3 and DDR4 but obvously if you have a DDR3 board you can't use DDR4 RAM and vice-versa: http://ark.intel.com/products/88191/Intel-Core-i5-6600K-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_90-GHz The ASRock board listed looks like it is a DDR4 board so it will only work with DDR4 RAM.

It was a good choice going with Intel choosing between the i5 6600K and the FX-9590. The FX-9590 is really picky about what motherboards it will work with due to its high power demand. You would have needed to have checked the board specifically for compatibility with the FX-9590 and I think one of the only boards it's guaranteed to work with is one of the ASUS Crosshair boards which can provide the power that the FX-9590 requires.

I totally forgot about checking CPU compatibility with motherboards. The 9590 needs a really high end board to support it, making it even more of a bad purchase.

I know very little about Intel boards, otherwise I'd suggest one. Also DDR3 and DDR4 are pretty much the same in price, so might as well get DDR4. Performance difference isn't much though for most real world usage.
 
Might as well stick with DDR4 indeed, in which case the Z170 chipset is probably the way to go. Make sure it's Socket 1151, too.

ASUS and MSI make good boards too. Generally I'd stick to Gigabyte and ASUS but ASRock and MSI are good options.
 
I'm pretty sure the 9590 would've worked in the motherboard, I've seen them bundled in the past. But with that said, if the money allows it I recommend Intel as well.

I think ASRock released a combo motherboard like two-three days ago.

In regards to virtual machines, both AMD and Intel have special instruction sets to help with that, but I believe Intel is superior (mainly because it's much newer), but it should be more efficient in general as well (CPU performance aside).

Hey everyone. thank for your current support on this, with everyone's help I think we got this ironed out. I have upgraded the CPU one more time as I have decided to add another month to the build time to save up for a higher end CPU. Here is the final build up for revision.

Now that, is a "screaming" rig. Those are really solid components from the looks of it. I've always tried to shy away from ASRock (don't know much about them), but I doubt there's much wrong with them. Nice job picking the parts, and a solid decision to postpone the building for the CPU.
