windows 7, 32 bit or 64 bit? Help!

I would really appreciate some input. I had an older Dell Dimension 3000, Hyper-thread 3.0MHz, with a 160GB hard drive and 1 gig of ram. I got interested in flight simulations and games, and bought the yoke, throttle, rudder pedals and joy stick from Saitek. All installed and calibrated perfectly. Then I found out the hard way the graphics card wouldn't run the new games. I tried to upgrade the graphics card, but I only had PCI slots. Everyone I asked said I would have to get a newer computer.

So, I bought a new Dell Studio XPS, 1 T hard drive, 8 G of ram, 64 bit platform, Windows 7 Home, with the i7 processor and a high-end graphics card. Guess what? The yoke, throttle, rudder pedals and joystick will not work with the new computer, won't calibrate at all. I have access to Windows 7 Ultimate, in either 32 bit or 64 bit.

Will installing the 32 bit solve the problem? Can I do that as an upgrade without losing everything on the computer? Or do I have to wipe the drive and start all over?

Does the 64 bit thing just refer to the OS, or is there something that would affect the actual hardware?

I have to get a new printer as my older and very good one isn't compatible with 64 bit.

Any input would be really appreciated.

Hello, Tremmor,

Thanks for the post. I tried that, it didn't make any difference. I am wondering if I can install Windows 7 Ultimate, 32 bit, over the Windows 7 Home 64 bit platform as an upgrade.

Thanks,

You can't upgrade from a 64 to a 32bit...you need to reinstall fresh!

But, I'd try to check for win7 64-bit drivers on saitek site first!! I'll bet there is compatibility...some things on win7 just need to be found/installed manually@

:)

Thanks, Laquer Head and Tremmor,

I took your advice and was able to contact Seitek. They said I had to uninstall everything, remove the joysticks, etc, from the computer, and go to their website where they just put in the drivers for the Windows 7 64 bit platform. I need to download the drivers and software from their website, not from the disks that came with the stuff, and then put back the joysticks, etc.

Will let you know if it works.

Thanks for all of your input, it was greatly appreciated.
