Windows 7 is definitely better due to its increases capabilities (Max RAM for example) but this is only true for newer hardware. If you have an old PC with outdated hardware, then the opposite will be true. If your PC can barely run 7 then it won't do well running games too. In this case XP is the better choice.

Windows XP is 12 years old, it's extremely dated. Except for XP Pro x64, you are limiting yourself to 4GB of RAM and DirectX 9.

I'd say more like Windows 7 > 8 > XP > Vista.
Well my gaming expierience is better on 8 than 7.

I think windows 8 is definitely better than 7, it's faster (my pc with a 7,200 rpm hdd boots up in 5-10 seconds) and has a lot of nice new features. It's only downside is that you have to get used to the new look. Its new look is actually one of the things people hate about it the most, but that's normal cause as we all know no-one likes changes until they get used to them :D

Well I learned the new UI and I like it but I don't like that Aero is gone. :'(

I'm never gonna like Metro. It's stupidly backwards for a lot of us, and also useless unless you have a touchscreen. Hell, even with a touchscreen it's still useless.

You can always download the classic shell for windows 8 and it will look just like 7 except it will be way faster and almost crash-free.

Think it was a mistake for not giving you the option when installing of between standard desktop with the start icon and Metro. Maybe years from now when most are touch screen, but at this time a big mistake. I have no use for it.

Matters the specs of your rig, older Xp is fine. But if you have a never rig, windows 7 is the way to go, dx11, the 64bit version works good (unlike XP) so more ram. Id say windows 8 is a downgrade from XP and even windows 2000. Complete slow, touchscreen crappy modeled metro interface, freezes all the time, especially with an AMD duel core laptop my mom has.

I wouldn't suggest that Windows 8 was a downgrade from XP or 2000. For me, anything newer than XP is an upgrade from it (or 2000).

Windows 8 is the fastes OS I ever used.

For what my opinion is worth (0), I've had more trouble in the past 8 months with Windows 7 than I had in eight years of XP. The only reason I broke down and installed 7 is so that I could get continued support for software and Windows Updates, because XP's support ends in early 2014. But I will still dual-boot XP for some of my older software and for transferring backed-up data from DVD+RW, which makes Win7 choke

Yea you are right about CD and DVD disks.Windows 7 operates the data transfer on them so slow.XP is way faster in that.

Newone...if you are playing games which support DX9 and they work at great speed to you then why change the OS?
I would suggest you to use newer OS like Windows 7 ONLY if you cannot play certain games and operate other certain things which you need on XP and ONLY if upgrading the OS is the ONLY option.

Honestly you are not missing a lot.Yes Windows 7 and 8 have MANY new features, but as we all know there are also DOZENS of programs for Windows XP which can provide you absolutely any features you might need.

I am sticking on Windows XP for 10 more years minimum lol.

Cheers!

If I could upgrade from XP to anything, it would be a Dual Boot - XPMCE (if you have under 4gb ram) or XPx64 (if you have higher) and Windows 7. I may even have tried Ubuntu, as Steam has been released for it.

Obviously you either didn't use Win8 or you did it wrong. Windows 8 has always felt fast and fluid for me.
