So last week my grandma gives me a call tells me something is wrong with her computer so I go over there. Corrupted files was on it causing it to not boot so I reinstall windows everything is doing fine until the computer shuts it self down so I restart and same message is coming up. So I reinstalled windows a couple more time each time using a different disk and product key(I have access to lots of disks and product key because I work at a computer shop). Each time the same thing came up after the computer shut down so I started trouble shooting the problem tried some different RAM plus tested old RAM same problem still happens. I had I different CPU to fit the socket so I threw it in there updated the bios. Not 5 minutes after the computer shut it self down again.
So I switched the PSU with an older Antec one I had same thing happened. I switched every part of that computer out and every time I got the same message. The hard drive is the only thing I couldn't test because I didn't have another one and I didn't have enough time to test it because the computer wouldn't say on long enough.
So the computer is a E-Machines got it from best buy September 14 of last year so it's not even a year old yet. My grandma payed for a 2 year warranty so if she had any problems she could get it fixed for free. So we take it down to best buy last Thursday they do a couple test right there tell us it might be 3 weeks before we get it back so I was like that's fine. So I go back to my house get one of the 20 computer out of my basement and put some RAM in it and install windows XP so she will have a computer because she needs one for banking and she likes to play hearts and solitaire. Anyways back to the story so best buy called to day told her it was going to cost $130 to have it fixed this really steamed me up since she had a warranty on it and the thing is only 11 months old. So they tell her the system is corrupted well you think so she asked him how is it corrupted he said well it's corrupted she said I know that but how he never answered her back.
They wont her to pay $130 and I don't even know what for they are supposed to call back today and I'm going to talk to them. My guess is they won't her to pay for a new copy of windows vista because there going to try and say the the software is not included in the warranty. Screw that I got my own vista disks I have 5 disks each with 30 copy's of vista on them that I use for my shop not only that but I go XP disks to. Their not going to pull one over on me. My only guess is it is the hard drive because that is the only thing I didn't test well that and the motherboard. So I will probably get into a big argument with :gun: geek squad and just bring the computer back order a new hard drive and install Vista or XP or Windows 7RC depending on which one she wont's. :gun: Geek squad is a joke I know more about computers then all of them put together. They know nothing about how to fix a computer and just look for a way to make money.
What do you guys/girls think is wrong with the computer I'm not much of a software guy I'm a hardware person but I'm not stupid either I know it's not the OS, PSU, RAM, CPU. All that leaves is the HDD and mobo right is there any thing I could of over looked.
Sorry the post is so long lol this really steamed me up.
