Which quad core?

I know that the triple cores (720be) are either quad cores with the 4th core dissabled or just a quad core with a broken fourth core, but what are the chances that I can open that 4th core up?

If it is too much of a risk and I am focused on getting a quad core, does this look like a good set up? >>

MoBo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131402

Is there anything wrong with that CPU? I doesn't have as many ratings as the other quad cores for the same price and it has a higher GHz on each core (.2)

I thought, if I really want a quad core, why be a fricken Penny Pincher, and just save $60 more for it.

Okay cool, Ill just stick with the quad core. And thank you, I wasn't sure if that MoBo was a good idea for this build or not.

The motherboard says it has 2 PCIe x 2.0 slots ones a x16 an the other is x8. Does that mean I can still SLI or can I not put an ordinary x16 card in that x8 slot?

Thanks again

Its a Crossfire only board. Not SLI. With a single card the top slot runs a X16. In Crossfire with two cards they are X8/X8. If you want a X16/X16 board you need a 790FX chipset.

I probably wont ever crossfire or sli anytime in the near future. So, will it still run a Nvidia card as long as there is no SLI going on?

I found this card, stranglehold im pretty sure you have the same one, it's epic.

Yeah it a kick butt little card, well its a bigger GTS 250 card. Havent really played alot of games on it yet. But havent had any problams at all. Plus it runs cool too.

Oh, of course, but stupid question. Even on a board with ati's chipset, I can still use a single Nvidia GPU right? It will only not work if I try to SLI on it right?

Sure you can run a single Nvidia card on a Crossfire board. If you thought you might want to run crossfire in the future you could go for something like the 5750 or 5770.

or 2x

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102848&cm_re=4890-_-14-102-848-_-Product

depends on what money comes around and when it does. But of course, Ill get one at a time. those 4890's look gorgeous :)

So on that Asus Evo board I posted, there will be no problem with Crossfiring them? The pcexpress 2.0 x 16/ x8 socket just confused me a bit. I didnt know the x8 meant for xfire only, or so I was told.

It will run a single card at X16. If you run two in Crossfire they run in X8/X8. Not a problem really, if you were going to run two 5850/5870 it would probably kill a few FPS.

You need a 790FX board to run Crossfire in X16/X16

I like the msi board, but for now I'll sry with the evo board. I still need to get the gpu first, before I can even start thinking of a crossfire set up.

What power supply is needed to run that gts 250 msi card. I was looking around for the minimum and recommended requirments but they aren't posted.

For a GTS 250. Probably around, minimum would be 450/500W with 30/35 Amps. Thats not to say the card uses that much, nowhere near that much. Thats just the minimum for a average system using a GTS 250.

Does that all hve to be on one rail or can it be split between multiple rails?
