PS3 or X360?

^nope, i took excelent care of mine, i took care of it just like i take care of my gaming rig witch is my baby :) lol

PS3 online is good, who ever says its laggy, uhh there internet sucks, cause i havent had problems.

The being free for me, is more a bonus than anything, its just nice to know that you don't have to keep buying crap to keep it running, but i must admit, the controler on the xbox is a fav. of mine :o:P

im still getting use to the ps3 one.

+1

i loooooove the 360 controller

ps3. 360 is better for shooter games, but the rrod rate is over 50% so i would say ps3

The xbox 360 is a better gamer console the PS3 is better for media. Nobody really knows what the RROD rate is I have seen some say 16%, 23, 33%, 45%, 54% everybody always has a different answer.

Red Ring Of Death

ps3 has internet kind of like the psp. but it has flash and its actually pretty fast.

a 120gb ps3 is $300 (online is free)
a 120gb 360 is also $300 (have to pay for online)

another good thing is the ps3's hard drive can easily be replaced with a laptop hard drive. but with a 360, you have to spend a crapload on their overpriced hard drives

Yea but xbox live is 10x better then PSN.

Just go with your gut feeling or which ever one has what you like. They are pretty much the same accept PS3 as blu-ray and a web browser. 360 has more games and better online.

If you're getting it for 1 or 2 games and dont plan on doing much gaming with it, get a PS3 for the blue ray player.

If you plan on doing a lot of gaming get a 360.
If you get a 360 dont even buy a new one, find a cheap RROD one on craigslist and just fix it yourself.

Uhh, I've had 3 Xbox 360's, first was the regular white one, then I had an Elite, now I have another regular white one. It still runs like new, but when playing GTA IV on the 360 I kind of want to cry because the graphics are so bad.

GTA IV looks great on my 360/TV..

Really? Maybe it's because I don't have an Eliete... Or it attached to HDMI. But I know when I play it on my PC I can set everything to maximum and have my view distance really far, maybe that's why i don't like it.

Elites don't have better graphics then the regular ones. The only thing different about them is the hard drive is bigger and they are black.

Oh mah god, you had to post this up didn't you... I personally own a 360, but after some dissapointmennts I would go with the ps3...

some things you might wanna consider...

ps3 Xbox 360
Blu ray (quieter than DVD) Dvd
lower power cunsumption higher...
quieter, due to less heat being produced more
free online $50 per yr

hasn't one of the key initial points been missed? OP said that he is looking at picking the platform up due to FF XIII for the main part.

Thats pretty much what I am doing soon too, I have and XBOX360, and gave it to my brother well over a year ago now after buying it, playing a couple of games and deciding that I wouldnt use it enough. Now FF XIII is coming out and I want to play it, obviously its going across both platforms but i've already decided to get a PS3 to play it on.

The main reason for that being in that if I don't decide to carry on playing games on it which I highly expect to happen, I will at least have a blu ray player and a decent system to work with my TV out of it. Also FFXIII will only be on one disc on the ps3 (I know its only a few discs on Xbox but still). As well as that, the game will surely have been created originally with the playstation platform in mind and then transferred over to the xbox so there is a slight potential for the ps3 to perform better with the game.

So to my mind the best decision for me is to get the PS3 for FF XIII

plus something that has been hit upon earlier about hard drives, with the x360 microsoft can use a cheap hdd and you wouldn't "know", while last I checked ps3's use seagate drives, and instead of waiting for microsoft to release hdds based on higher density drives for more space, you can buy a new off the shelf drive with the fastest speeds and largest capacity.

not to mention.... F@H:D

Bingo. Not looking to do anything else with it - FF13 will almost certainly be the only game I own for it. Did a bit more research and I think I'll stick with PS.

That's good to know about the HDD, bomber. Definitely a + in that category :) Thanks for the input, everyone!

Edit: Oh, one (two?) more things... PS/PS2 discs can be played on it too, right? And can you install a browser over what it comes with? Say I wanted Firefox...

Naw, the slims, or latest PS3 consoles are not backward compatible, so you cannot use your old PS/PS2 disks. You can't manually install your favorite browser within the PS3 OS; however, you can install and boot a linux OS. I've tried installing yellowdog myself and haven't quite figured it out, but it is possible. Just google it. :P And yes, replacing the HD is simple. Most of the time is spent backing up the system to an external drive. The internal drive swap takes < 5 minutes. I'm running a 500 gig drive atm lol. the PS3 internet browser is a piece of shit.

if its specifically for one game only you might as well get a PS3

Yeah, like others have said, you get a lot more features outside of gaming with the PS3 than you do with an Xbox. The ability to easily upgrade your HD, blu ray, install another OS, use it as a media center server (it can connect to your windows PC and serve pics, music, videos, etc...) ... those are all awesome. I use my PS3 for movies and other media more than I do gaming, and the netflix feature that bomber mentioned is hella tight. It's 8.99 a month. I signed up for it about a month ago. No hi def streaming but its still cool to have a ton of movies on demand. Very little lag or buffering and a decent selection of all the different genres. You also get one movie by mail, which is useful if the movie you want is not available for streaming.

And bomber, the original 40GB drive in my console was a seagate.
