build

aye, thanks for the input. I think that is what I will do then.

Do you have an opinion on the motherboards presented in post #17?

Your cooler has been deactivated. :(

And yes on the SSD. I have the 90GB one and it is blazing fast. Just gotta set it up right, of course.

I would go with the Asrock first, then the gigabyte board.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103057 is the cooler. I don't know why the first link was deactivated.

And thanks.

I would still rather have the 212+. That one only has 92mm fans compared to the 212+'s 120mm, and it comes with brackets so you can mount any 120mm for an exhaust, like I have set up.

I would say it would make a difference. And its $15 cheaper. I was gonna go with that cooler until my friend got the 212+ on his i5 and was getting 24c on idle. And that's with one stock fan. Upgrade the fan and get another one blow out, and it will stay really cool.

I agree with this, I have the Hyper 212 EVO and with one fan I'm getting 28c on the hottest core and 22c on the coolest on idle, and at a 4.0Ghz OC I'm getting around 55-57c with just one fan. So it's a good air cooler for the price, plus it has 120mm fans with support for up to 2 of them.

Also, what fans are those on you Hyper 212+ claptonman?

Its not a generally good thing to recommend something based on "everyone else is doing it".

The 212 is good, no one is claiming that it is not. I got pleanty of #s on that. But I am not overclocking to 4GHz anytime soon. I ain't overclocking at all for a permanent basis. The 2500k is just future proofing the system. When it is not still kicking butt, I can overclock it and still be good. That I can not do with a non k.
And when this time comes to be, I am almost certain that there will be better coolers out than the 212. When the 775 was still a kick arse system I don't think the 212 was out.

So I guess what I am saying is, As long as the Hyper 520 is substantially better than the intel crap that comes in the box, then I will use it. If it is not better than the stock, then I will go with the 212.

It's better than the stock fan, by a long shot. I'm not saying it's a bad cooler either, I'm just saying my experience so far with my 212.

Best of luck to you on your build, its a blast, the only part I was nervous about was installing my CPU, after it was installed it was a breeze.

Also, nice avatar, my favorite animal of all time.

I have built computers before. A lot of them. The process isn't fun, its tedious, especially when your looking for 1 outcome/look and are running through 100+ zipties a minute trying to cable manage.

I guess what I was trying to say is I would rather spend the extra 10 on this cooler for the looks than just buy a 212. Its nothing special with the 212 it is what everyone uses these days. I am not everyone.

I didn't know that you built computers before, my mistake.

And I don't blame you, I just went with it for the good cooling.

Prolimatech PRO-BV12. Nothing special compared to what you can get, But I got a good deal on them at a store, and they match my color scheme.

Other people make good coolers. Could look at some xigmateks, too. And Noctua make some excellent high-end coolers.

how about the V6GT? how well does it cool? (I ain't worried about price on the cooler, I have a look I kinda want to preserve with it, and coolermaster is the case, so a CM cooler would be just loyalty).

I know. I am going to look up some reviews on it. It will go along nicely with the whole "I got power and I know it" look I am looking for.

looks good to me. According to their test the GT was running 76.5*c at 3.8 on a i7-920. I'm not sure how that compares to the 212, but it is the same temp as the NH-D14 but 20* higher than the apogee gtz i7, but I think that s a watercooler. So that would make it pretty good to only be 20* hotter than a full water loop.
