What VPN do you use? I can peg out very close to 60/5 numbers through a $1/mo VPS
Currently I am using Private internet access VPN. I have the client installed on my machine however I am not running default settings. On the PIA website they recommend using the PIA client software along with default settings, however I am using OpenVPN with TCP port 502 instead of the default UDP 1198. I am thinking it may be time to look into another VPN solution. I also am thinking that I need to flash a router with DD-WRT to get the most out of my VPN performance, i've just been waiting to do this until I pick up a second asus RT-n66 because I don't want to brick my only way out to the interwebs lol.

Ah you probably want to run the tunnel over UDP mode. TCP on top of TCP generally makes it crappy. The TCP inside of the tunnel can do its own retransmits etc.

I actually get higher numbers out of the VPN, which is amusing.

The problem is when I use the default setting: UDP 1198, the VPN crashes EVERY time after about 10 minutes. My theory on this is that some appliance on ISP side is causing the UDP session to break somewhere. That's part of the reason I switched to this configuration. TCP 502 seems more stable at this point. I may have to test out some other UDP ports. That's really strange that you get higher numbers on VPN, i'll have to wrap my head around that one lol

Roger "Gigabit" service is like 800-900down and 50 up...lol
Probably also using cable, right? Cable companies allocate more channels for downstream than upstream since it's much more heavily utilized. No point giving people slower downloads for faster uploads.
