I would be tempted to be happy for you if you first considered all the people on this board you owe money and trades to.

Are you just trying to beat my computer spec wise?

I thought you had to sell all your parts to get money for something...

EDIT: Also, a C2D would smoke that Opteron.

care to name "all the people"?

if you want i'll still send you the 3 peices of the 1GHz P3

last time I checked, im not in any debt now? if Bebopin wasn't satisfied with the trade, he should speak up, if he wants something else, then i'll send him something else

I started a trade with someone else, they received the items faulty (USPS store was out of stock of boxes and such, so I had to hope for the best when I shipped it out. I'm awaiting him sending the items back and I will replace them and pack them properly in my own box this time instead of trusting USPS's stuff..

now, any more problems you want to address?

I know, but I cant afford the DDR2 kit :P

i had to refund RMA my stuff i previously ordered because of Black friday, but i got the money back so it's ordering time

If you dont have money to afford a C2D and DDR2, dont spend $700 on a GPU, just buy the 8800GTS or X1950

You will not reach the potential of the GTX with anything less then a Core 2 Duo. They are CPU-bottlenecking with the G80 series. So, by that account you have wasted your money in a sense, when you could have gotten better components otherwise. Then again, with 1GB that is currently going to be your system's bottleneck above and beyond the processor.

Otherwise, great choice on the Xclio PSU.

Also, with the E6600 I would recommend going for something other then a (by all means) budget board. The DS3 is a budget board that does well with the E6300/E6400. With the higher multiplier, you really should be looking at boards that cost ~170 and up, or 975x boards.

spec me a computer for $1000, I dont need a HDD, DVD drive, case or any other cooling, my XP-120 works on 775

C2D E6300 - 180
Gigabyte DS3 - 150
2GB DDR2 800Mhz ram that will overclock - ~250 bucks
Or you can get this DDR2 1000Mhz Ballistix for 300 and 35 MIR Linky

Overclock the E6300 up to ~3Ghz easily with little if any vcore bump, maybe a MCH bump - but that should give you enough computer to take advantage of the GTX. You can sell that board and recoup some cost, as well as return the CPU you just bought and take the restocking fee. And/or return the motherboar for her computer, and just transfer yours over to hers, let her have the DFI.

After this, you'd have a C2D running 3Ghz+ with DDR2 ram running at or above 1000Mhz and a GTX producing mad frame rates pounding through your P965 chipset-clad DS3.

Either way, keep the GTX even if you don't want to go C2D. Eventually you'll either sell that graphics card (and the GTX will hold more value) or you'll upgrade your CPU later on and then you'll at least have more power. But for now, you're going to bottleneck on that 1GB of ram and that relatively weak cpu. I say relatively weak, in comparison to the GTX. Anything but a C2D and FX62 look weak next to it, though.

Ku-sama, should I build a new rig with a Sempron 2800+ and a 7950GX2? Thats basically what you want to do... but with an Opteron and an 8800GTX.

What you need to be looking at is that the components are balanced. By all means, if you're going to get a graphics card TODAY, then get a G80. Get the DX10 card. But get components which will match it. Get a 680i board if you can swing it, otherwise get a 965 chipset board that can clock well for you. 2GB of ram is essential - again, no reason to get a G80 if you don't have the components around it to bring out its best. G80 + 2GB of ram + FAST CPU (Core 2 Duo, relatively inexpensive and very fast, overclockable, and cool running), and a board capable of handling the overclocking you want to do along with the features you need, but with your budget you will have sacrifices.

As Omega said, a weak CPU + powerful graphics card does you no good, its just the same as having a core 2 duo and a 5200LE - nothing good will come out of it. Same with having a G80, an AMD 4000+ Athlon 64, and only a gig of mediocre memory. With a top of hte line card, your whole system has to be built to accomodate, at least somewhat. I'm not saying you need to get a X6800 extreme, but you need something that can feed that monster. :)

That would be a better overall build, and you would see much more of an improvement in non-gaming tasks as well, especially in multitasking since you would have a much better CPU and 2GB of faster RAM.

Would you be able to stretch the budget to get an x1950XT for around $265 instead?

Ok, so he has 1000 to spend right now, which includes getting the graphics cards. He had/has me all confused.

For a grand..yeah...better not be looking at a GTX. You shouldn't update the sig until you have the parts ordered. =P

Hell, a GTS (~460, right?), E6300 (180), DS3 (~150), and 2GB of regular 800Mhz ram that will only clock to like 900Mhz comes in at almost exactly a grand shipped.

You're close, finagle a bit more on your budget and you can do a complete C2D system with GTS build that will last you for a while. Put a lock on yoru computer's case and throw away teh key so you don't get rid of anything for a few months! :)

so get the rig i speced out, wait for the R600 and upgrade then sell Michelle's 6800GS then give her the 7900GT?

Why does Michelle need a 7900GT, or even a 6800GS? Is she a gamer?

But yes, if you only have $1000, the GTX is way out of your price range. I spent around $1300 to get the parts for my rig, and I already had the CPU.

I would either buy the 7900GT or x1950XT (the best choice), and then upgrade to the R600 when it comes out next year.
