    The "Tech News" Thread

 The 5770 bench is 30fps, maxed, at 1680x1050. So at my 1280x1024, I might actually be able to max it in DX10! Win!

    Extreme gaming pc? Or junk?

Looks good to me. As for playing Crysis in particular, you should be able to max it out. The CPU will probably be the bottleneck since it's an older game. Best I can tell, it was originally coded for dual cores, and limited quad core support was coded in somewhere during development. It won't...

    help-whats a good processor?

^ BGA stands for ball-grid array, sir. In place of pins, it has balls of solder on the bottom of the CPU, which are heated to attach it to the motherboard. Nothing on a BGA "socket" is removable.

Why my Core 2 Duo pc work slower like a Intel Pentium D cpu !!?

Unless you have a massive graphics card in there, the power supply is fine. Keep in mind that there's a big difference between a "Pentium D" and a "Pentium Dual Core". A Pentium D is two Pentium 4 chips stuck together, while a Pentium Dual Core is a Core 2 Duo with a little less cache. Which do...

    Extreme gaming pc? Or junk?

Actually, most apevia cases are pretty bad...they usually have little to no cable management, fairly poor airflow, and gaudy plastic bits all over them. Their average build quality is pretty low. The one in quesitons actually wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't completely lacking a front fan, though...

    help-whats a good processor?

Welcome to the forums! :) It seems we've got a lot to teach you! I'll get started, I suppose. First, clock speed is not the only thing that matters in a processor. The only time you can compare to processors by their clock speed alone is when they're different versions of the exact same...

    i5-661

That's actually a better choice in your case, I think. Both chips will most likely be bottlenecked by the GPU when gaming, and when all 6 cores are used (as in most video editing), the Phenom is more powerful than the i5 7xx chips, so overall you should have better performance. The motherboard...

    USB3 fastest..im confused

^ Right for the most part, except that eSATA can run from any SATA port, even a 6GB/s one. However, I'd rather have a SATA 6GB/s and USB 3.0 compliant eSATAp port...best of both worlds.

    2 computers 1 mouse 1 keyboard

^ Right. Just don't hook the monitors through the KVM switch. Plug the monitors into their respective computers like normal, leaving only the mouse and keyboard in the switch, and viola, you have your on/on switch.

    2 computers 1 mouse 1 keyboard

You can use a KVM switch without hooking the monitors into it.

    Core i5 650M?

We're talking mobile, here, I think. However, there are no 6xx mobile i5 processors...only 5xx. Their 6xx models are i7's, so I'm a bit confused. Regardless, all mobile i5 processors are dual core, as well as all i7 6xx processors. (There are 640 and 660 mobile i7's...no 650 here either. Wut?)...

    Abandoned PC

Welcome to the forums! :) You've already found the best uses for it, IMO. If you want more, though, I suppose you could always use it as a web server of some sort...maybe for Ventrillo, or a game of some kind? Also, unless it's just really low on CPU power or RAM, the only way to really...

    Which video card brand?

Most of them use reference cards, which are pretty much all the same, so build quality isn't an issue. You want to look for good customer service and a good warranty. In that respect, EVGA easily takes the crown, as long as you register it within 30 days of buying it. All of EVGA's GTX 570's get...

    Newegg Deal PSU

Same unit as the Tuniq Ripper 1KW model. It'll stay in spec at full load, but only barely. It's not a "bad" unit at all, since it can actually provide its rated power and do so without going outside ATX specs, but it's close enough that it may fall out of spec as it gets older. Plus, you can get...

    Worst OS ever?

Me was a failed attempt at something awesome. They basically tried to add features that were in XP/2000 to 98. In a way, Windows 7 is to Vista as ME is to 98, except 7 is actually good. Also, I'd say Win98 first edition gives ME a run for its money...that was pretty bad. Vista had a bad...

    System BIOS, new PC

The only thing you might have to adjust is the RAM speed, if you got anything faster than 1333. In that case, it will usually default the RAM to 1333MHz @ 9-9-9 @ 1.5V no matter what its actual specs are. The machine will still function just fine like that, though.

    Really high ping?

What kind of service is this? (Most people have DSL, Cable, Satellite, or mobile broadband) edit: I just noticed you're on verizon. Is that one of those routers that hooks up to the local cellphone network? (AKA mobile broadband) If so, that's likely to be the problem...mobile services were...
