question about vpn and setting it up

It's possible. You could setup a lightweight linux distribution and setup openvpn. Lots of guides to do it.

    Losing printer connection

Actually it shouldn't do it. If the router has a correct dhcp implementation. It shouldn't give out a new network address to the same (still connected device). At the end of the DHCP lease the dhcp server should check if the device is still connected and using the IP. If so, it just re-issues...

Small company server (max 6-7 users)

Looking at the size of the business i assume the budget isn't that big? For something as simple as file access. I think you're better off getting a simple NAS. And if you're afraid of hardware failures just get 2 of them and let them sync at night. So if one fails you can switch over to the...

    Losing printer connection

Sounds like it's just releasing it's dhcp lease from the router. Setup the printer with a static ip outside the dhcp pool.

How to look at two DNS servers at once?

Just add an exception in the firewall that allows dns between the 2 servers and you should be good. However if you've got a DMZ in your network it might be better to do it another way. Point your internal workstation to the dns servers in the internal lan. And just let him forward it to the...

How to look at two DNS servers at once?

Both servers should be able to resolve both domains if you want to do this. You could setup conditional forwarding on both. So if dns1 gets a request ment for domain2 it will forward the request to dns2. And the other way around. Do the dns servers also resolve internet adresses?

    Slow Download Speeds

So... to summarize. - At your home = fine - In you dorm = sucks - wireless in the rest of the school = fine Correct? If you get crappy speeds even though you're directly connected (without router) there's pretty much nothing you can do besides complaining. You can do a traceroute to...

    Slow Download Speeds

Had some problems with network equipment from them in the past. Don't care about design, won't see the router anyway. If you just read some reviews about you should be fine.

    Slow Download Speeds

Something like a network drawing would be nice. Of how all devices are connected. The router seems ok. I just don't like asus as a brand when it comes to network equipment.

    Slow Download Speeds

Could be anything that's slowing you down. If you don't have additional info it's a guessing game. For a new router i'd check out http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/. Huge database of routers with specs and (professional) reviews. Alot of charts about the actual performance also. They really...

    .msi question

You can usually get the msi's straight from the vendor. So mozilla and adobe. With adobe you can extract the msi from the normal installer files. But there's also an enterprise deployment guide where you can just subscribe to the installer files.

Problem with network printer at work

Could you make a schematic drawing or something? Would really clarify things. Other things to try while com1 is off: - Ping the printer on ip - See if it has a webinterface or something - Reinstall printer on computers

    question

If you want to do it nicely you might want to think about setting up a point to point vpn between the routers at your house and the family member house. Then the people at the other house wouldn't even notice the vpn. This would require 2 routers at both ends who support the same type vpn. If...

Windows home server also has the storage pool feature. You might want to look into that. Might be better for you to use.

    Gigabit Ethernet Card?

I'll probably be getting 100mbit in a couple of weeks  Ontopic: No, getting a gigabit network card will probably not benefit in internet speed. It will benefit you in transfer speeds between computer in your home network if your router supports gigabit. As for the price range...

    InterOffice Email Setup

Even if you don't want to be using active directory you need 2 things: e-mail cliënt and an e-mail server. E-mail cliënt shouldn't to hard. Pegasus or outlook do fine. You could also use thunderbird. The e-mail server is something else. What's your budget? I actually don't know any free...

Removing an e-mail address from server notifications

What do you expect from us? I can't guess what kind of software you're using. I'm assuming you want to know how to edit the list of recipients that get notified about backup completions? Then it might be usefull for us to know what kinda of software you're using for backup. And maybe the...

which network setup would be faster

Probably not noticeable. Depends on your internet connection and usage. As you can read here your router does pretty well performance wise. I doubt your internet connection is faster then 130mbit ;). You might want to check how many connections you have open for a couple of days. If you use...
