Snagged a friend's old gaming PC, need suggestion on any possible upgrades.

Turns out the processor is a Core2Duo 6700 2.66GHz. As stated previously, the PSU is a 550W Antec. Will I still be okay putting a 7770 in there with the said processor and CPU? Any idea what sort of performance I can expect? Thanks again everyone!

Snagged a friend's old gaming PC, need suggestion on any possible upgrades.

Okay guys, so here's the deal. Turns out the power supply is actually a 550W but it is an Antec. Will I still be okay to run the 7770 on this machine? Also, I had to remove the boot HDD to give back to my friend. The tower still has the 2EA 500GB 7200's but I don't have an OS on it so no way...

Will do! Would you personally prefer 7 or 8? I hate the Metro dashboard app stuff that Win8 has, but supposedly it's going away and I think 8 is better optimized than 7, correct?

Snagged a friend's old gaming PC, need suggestion on any possible upgrades.

First, thanks to both of you guys for the help, I really appreciate it. I owe you! I'd imagine that PSU is probably right at 5 years old so it may be close to being on the fritz, but if I can throw a $115 7770 in there and have a decent little machine, then I'll be fine as long as you guys...

I'm at work now, but I will check when I get home. In reading reviews for that Mobo it seemed like people were having issues running ATI cards on it because the mobo has some kind of Nvidia chipset on it. If that's not the case would the 7770 be a better card?

Thank you for your quick reply, spirit! This is the PS that's in the machine curently: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=891391&is=REG&Q=&A=details Just as you said, I'm not looking to put a lot of time and effort into it, but I figured if I could throw a $100 card...

Laptop Suitable for HD Video Editing?

Mine is too, everyone says the Dell BIOS is decent but fairly restrictive. So overall you think I'd be fine for what I'm doing, especially if I upgrade the ram to the link I provided? Just for an example lol, I don't want to be able to do this (at least not anytime soon)...

I tried the CPU-Z just for good measure. No, I don't know anything about overclocking.

Laptop Suitable for HD Video Editing?

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm honestly not sure, I thought running dxdiag would tell me, but it just shows the amount. It's 200 pin DDR2, though. I was thinking up upgrading to this...

Laptop Suitable for HD Video Editing?

Hey guys, Could anyone comment on how well the computer in my signature would do for editing HD video? I'm thinking of getting a Happauge HD PVR (which does all of the encoding) and making video game montages for myself and my friends. My main thing is I'll only be doing the raw basics...

Linksys Router (WRT54GL) no Internet Light

I had rebooted everything and run multiple configurations. I had a buddy come over yesterday and help me out with everything and we've pretty much come to the conclusion that when the original cable modem I had quit, it nuked the ports of the X360 and the router. The 360 still works but never...

Linksys Router (WRT54GL) no Internet Light

I have a Linksys WRT54GL that is about 3 years old. I recently exchanged my cable internet modem for a new one because my previous model decided to stop working. With my new modem, when connected directly to the PC the PC Link light stays on and I have internet service. When I connect the...

Wired 360 Controller for CS:S on PC?

Alright thanks for the replies guys. I've played CSS for over a year now and am comfortable with a mouse and keyboard, but thought the controller might give an advantage. A good point was made about buying in game as well as the precision of using a mouse over a controller so I'll scratch the...

Wired 360 Controller for CS:S on PC?

Hey everyone, I was wondering if it is possible and if so, how logical would it be to use a wired Xbox 360 controller for playing Counter Strike: Source? Or, do you know anyone who does this or has tried it? I have about 3,500 more kills than deaths on COD4 for the 360 and I'd like to use...

    xbox 360 controller

Do the lights on the controller "spin"? Like alternate around the circle? If so it means that something is causing the battery pack to not charge. When the batteries get low in the 360 controller, the lights spin. Does that help at all?

Reformatted & Reinstalled, now no USB

Well I managed to get it working. Just an FYI for anyone that may have a future problem. All that was required was to right click on each USB Root Hub item in Device Manager and uninstall. After uninstalling, the computer will recognize the hubs and as long as the chipset drivers have been...

Reformatted & Reinstalled, now no USB

Yeah it is. I've looked, and thought I downloaded the correct drivers. I actually downloaded the chipset drivers from the Drivers and Utilities disk that came with the computer and I think that might be where I went wrong.

Reformatted & Reinstalled, now no USB

I had been having terrible trouble with my laptop slowing down to a crawl so I finally decided to reformat the HDD and reinstall the OS (WinXP MCE 2005). Right after the fresh install and when everything was working well the USB port was working fine. I plugged in the USB receiver for my...
